Jarosław brings together a range of cultural themes: interactive interpretation, church art and historic buildings. When looking for a hotel in Jarosław, it helps to first consider which interests you want to shape your stay. Some of the city’s distinctive places include the Centrum Edukacji Kulturalnej, the Kolegiata pw. Bożego Ciała and buildings around the Rynek.

Cultural Interpretation and Event Venues

The Centrum Edukacji Kulturalnej uses interactive equipment and multimedia applications to introduce visitors to music, painting, sculpture and architecture. Its spaces are located in the Town Hall cellars, with an entrance on the side facing the city fountain, and in the Brama Krakowska. There, the entrance is at the intersection of Grodzka and Węgierska Streets. Check the center’s current accessibility before visiting.

The Kamienica Attavantich houses the Główna, Debiutów and w Holu galleries. On the top floor is the elegant Sala Lustrzana, decorated with stucco; it is used for cultural events and concerts. If an event is to be part of your stay, check the schedule in advance.

The Gmach „Sokoła“ was built in the early 20th century to a design by architect Teodor Talowski. It is home to the Jarosławski Ośrodek Kultury i Sztuki, a municipal cultural institution serving the city and the Powiat. It promotes visual art, theater and music, and fosters interests and talents, especially among children and young people. Check the current program before visiting.

Church Art and Architectural History

The Kolegiata pw. Bożego Ciała, originally dedicated to Saint John, is considered Poland’s oldest former Jesuit church. Its monumental Drzwi Tysiąclecia were designed by sculptor Stanisław Lenar of Jarosław. They depict scenes from the history of Poland and Jarosław. The high altar contains the painting Matki Boskiej Śnieżnej Królowej Rodzin. It survived the church fire of 1862 and is especially venerated.

The Orthodox church in Jarosław houses the Hodegetria icon of the Mother of God, Brama Miłosierdzia. It offers another specific point of reference for the city’s religious art.

The Kamienica Orsettich is also connected with Jarosław’s cultural history: it has housed the Muzeum w Jarosławiu since 1945. The Ratusz has well-known historical reference points ranging from the last quarter of the 15th century—when it was first mentioned—to a technical detail: the clock on its tower was made in Vienna in 1896, in the workshop of Richard Liebing.

Landmarks around the Rynek and the City’s History

Beneath the townhouses at Rynek 4, 5 and 6 lies the Podziemne Przejście Turystyczne. The passage is 186 meters long and extends up to 6 meters below the surface of the market square.

Another glimpse into the past takes us to 1920: during the typhus epidemic, the Jewish Community made the Mykwa available to all residents at the request of the district governor. The Festiwal Muzyki Fortepianowej im. Marii Turzańskiej is part of the city’s musical history. It is regarded as Jarosław’s most important annual classical music festival and has been held since 2012. If you are planning a trip around a concert, check the dates in the relevant program.

Jarosław’s Geographic Setting

Jarosław lies on the high edge of the San’s left terrace, at the boundary between the Rzeszów Foothills—which in this section are also called the Jarosław Foothills—and the Lower San Valley. This geographic context complements the city’s cultural themes with the landscape in which Jarosław is situated.
