Garnek lies on the Warta and Wiercica rivers; the village’s history includes traces of the former manor and parish. A kayaking route adds an on-the-water activity to the historical traces as you plan your trip. This gives you different options to focus on: time on a route, or historical buildings and landscape features. You can choose Garnek based on your interest in water activities, local history or a combination of the two.

Kayaking route and quest

The Kłobukowice–Garnek kayaking route is 14 kilometres long and is described as moderately difficult, with a duration of four hours. Plan it as a separate activity and leave room in your day for your other plans. Water conditions and operational details may change; check them before setting out.

The “W Gnieździe Reszków” quest in Garnek focuses on the Reszke family. Before your trip, check whether it is available at that time. This lets you choose between a route with a stated distance and duration and a quest focused on a family—two different kinds of activities to consider when planning your trip.

Traces of the former manor

Edward Reszke bought the Garnek estate in 1895 and built a manor house there. The former estate gatehouse in Garnek dates from 1898. The former manor complex also included a brick granary from the early 20th century. Three years separate the purchase of the estate in 1895 from the gatehouse in 1898; the brick granary dates from the early 20th century.

The estate also included a park with rare tree species and landscaped avenues. Remains of the manor park, dating from the turn of the 20th century, have been preserved in Garnek. The gatehouse, granary and park remains offer different perspectives on the estate’s history: architectural traces, grain storage and a landscaped setting. The park thus adds another facet of local history to the buildings.

Church and parish cemetery

The former parish church dated from 1750. It was burned down on 13 May 1944. Construction of the replacement church began on 7 October 1947; the new church was consecrated on 2 September 1951. The timeline thus runs from the earlier building, through the fire, to the later replacement.

The parish cemetery in Garnek dates from 1902 and is listed as a monument on the plan. Along with the church’s history, it adds another dated chapter to the history of the manor. If you are interested in the village’s historical development, you can include the history of the parish in your thematic selection alongside the traces of the manor.
