Explore Gowino through three distinct themes: archaeological remains and a protected historic village layout, forests with rare breeding birds, and regional cycling route No. 114. These different aspects can help you get a sense of the place when planning your stay.

Landscape and wildlife

Gowino and Pętkowice lie on the edge of the buffer zone of the “Trójmiejski Park Krajobrazowy” Landscape Park. The forests in the areas of Gowino and Pętkowice are breeding grounds for rare and endangered white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) and black storks (Ciconia nigra); their nesting sites are protected. Two distinct themes come together in this landscape: its location on the edge of the buffer zone and the importance of the forests as breeding grounds. The protected nesting sites are an important part of the local natural environment. In addition to its historic settlement layout, visitors interested in the landscape can discover this distinct perspective on Gowino and Pętkowice.

Archaeological remains and village history

The early medieval hillfort site in Gowino has a distinctive landscape character. It is listed in the archaeological monuments register under number C-52, formerly 30/A, based on a decision by the Wojewódzki Konserwator Zabytków in Gdańsk dated 4 December 1968. Its relationship with the landscape is part of what makes this historic site distinctive.

Another archaeological site is the burial mound cemetery in the Gowino area. It is listed in the archaeological monuments register under number C-72, formerly 49/A, based on a decision by the same authority dated 29 May 1969. The two entries refer to different sites, each with its own number and date.

The rural settlement layout is also part of the village’s history: part of Gowino lies within the protection zone for the village’s historic rural settlement layout. The building at ul. Długa 1 retains historic and cultural qualities and contributes to the historic character of the built environment within the protected rural settlement. Together, these features show different scales of heritage: from an archaeological site and a cemetery to the traditional village layout and individual buildings.

Regional cycling route No. 114

Regional cycling route No. 114 connects Lębork, Łęczyce, Luzino, Wejherowo and Krokowa. In the Gowino planning area, it follows road 01 KDZ. This makes Gowino one section of a longer regional route. The sequence of places and the route’s location along the designated road provide practical orientation, without prescribing an additional loop or a particular excursion. Check the signposting before setting off.

Culture in Wejherowo, in the broader destination of Neustadt

The broader destination of Neustadt includes other distinct cultural attractions in Wejherowo. Kalwaria Wejherowska was the fourth Calvary complex to be established during the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Construction of its chapels began after Bishop Mikołaj Albert Gniewosz of Aleksandrów approved the project on 9 June 1649.

The Muzeum Piśmiennictwa i Muzyki Kaszubsko-Pomorskiej in Wejherowo was founded in 1968. It is a repository of regional artefacts and a centre of Kashubian culture, particularly the Kashubian language. The historic town hall in Wejherowo displays models of the town and Kalwaria Wejherowska. The Książnica prof. Gerarda Labudy features a permanent exhibition on the history of the Kashubians. These attractions are associated with Wejherowo in the broader destination of Neustadt; they are not features of Gowino.
