The Słupia forms a bend in the river near Bydlino. The yellow-marked Dolina Słupi hiking trail also passes through the village, and a kayaking route on the river starts here as well. These offer different perspectives when planning a trip: the hiking trail connects several places over a longer distance, while kayaking plans focus on a specific stretch of river. Several historic half-timbered buildings add another dimension to the village’s architectural history. Together, these three aspects offer different answers to what makes Bydlino a distinctive destination: a route on foot, a stretch of river to explore by water, and historic architectural styles. You can consider Bydlino as a stopping point on a hiking trail, a starting point for a kayaking trip, or a destination for its historic buildings.

Hiking a Longer Trail

The yellow-marked Dolina Słupi hiking trail is 95 km long in total. It runs from Ustka via Bydlino, Słupsk, Dębnica Kaszubska, Konradów, Gałąźnia Mała and Gałęzowo to Bytów. Bydlino is therefore on the route, which continues from Ustka to Bytów; it is not a circular trail around the village. The distance given refers to the entire route. For a stay, the section you choose is therefore important. If you are planning to hike, you can think of Bydlino as part of the longer linear route rather than treating the entire trail as a local walk. Check current trail conditions locally before setting out.

Kayaking on the Słupia

The kayaking section on the Słupia runs from Bydlino to Ustka and is rated easy; it is suitable for beginners and families with children. The riverbed is wide, with no obstacles or difficult sections. Along the stretch of river that starts near Bydlino, the Słupia flows between meadows, with a very gentle current. This paddling route offers a different kind of activity from the longer hiking trail: the focus is on the course of the river, rather than on walking between several places. The listed starting points for the kayaking trip are the Machowino–Bydlino footbridge or, 1 km farther on, the Bydlino kayak landing. Check current conditions and access before setting out.

Historic Half-Timbered Buildings

Bydlino has several historic half-timbered buildings. Half-timbering is a building method in which a supporting timber frame divides the wall into sections, with the spaces between filled in. This architectural aspect broadens the view of the village beyond its river and routes: for those interested in historic architectural styles as well as scenery and outdoor activities, it offers another point of interest to consider when planning a trip.

Distinguishing the Hiking Trail from the Kayaking Route

Ustka features in both routes, but in different ways: for the hike, it is the starting point of the 95-km route that passes through Bydlino and continues to Bytów; for the kayaking trip, it is the destination from Bydlino. The two options therefore involve different routes and different scales of planning. The hiking trail describes a longer connection through several places, while the kayaking information concerns a specific stretch of river, its difficulty rating and the available starting points. When weighing up the activities, consider whether the longer walk or the paddling route rated as easy better suits your travel plans.
