Pomieczyno brings together a wooden church, memorial sites and several routes for different activities. For planning, it is worth considering architecture and remembrance on the one hand, and the routes on the other, as separate focal points. The routes differ in activity and course: one cycling route gives an approximate total length and the order of places along it, a Nordic walking route circles Lake Otalżyno, and another route can be used for walking and cycling year-round and is also intended for cross-country skiing in winter.

Wooden Church in the Old Zakopane Style

Pomieczyno is home to a wooden church dedicated to St Joseph. Its dome-shaped turrets are in the old Zakopane style, and the interior features Baroque elements. Different architectural references thus come together in one building: the wood and dedication characterize the church, the Zakopane style shapes the turrets, and the Baroque elements belong to the interior. If you are interested in religious architecture, you can distinguish the exterior design from the features inside the church, rather than classifying the church solely by a single architectural style.

Memorial Sites and Local History

A plaque on the school building in Pomieczyno, ul. Kartuska 14, commemorates people who died or were murdered in January and February 1945 during the evacuation march of prisoners from the Stutthof concentration camp. The plaque also thanks local residents for helping and caring for the prisoners. A mass grave for 52 victims of the death march is located in the parish cemetery in Pomieczyno. They were prisoners of the Stutthof concentration camp who were murdered in February 1945 during the tragic evacuation march. The victims included about 40 men and 12 women. The two memorial sites thus emphasize different things: the plaque also commemorates the assistance provided by local residents, while the grave specifies the number of victims and the cemetery as a place of remembrance.

Choose Routes by Activity and Course

The Błękitna Trasa Rowerowa is almost 36.5 kilometres long. It runs from Gdańsk Osowa through Chwaszczyno, Tuchomek, Warzenko, Tokary, Kawle Dolne, Trzy Rzeki, Pomieczyno, Hejtus and Kolonia to Sianowo. Pomieczyno is therefore one of the places explicitly named along this regional cycling route. The length and sequence of places describe the entire route to Sianowo and give it a different character from a route defined primarily by a circuit around a lake.

A red Nordic walking route also passes through Pomieczyno. It runs via Otalżyno Pomieczyńskie and circles Lake Otalżyno. There is also a route for walking and cycling that can be used year-round and is intended for cross-country skiing in winter. It runs through Chwaszczyno, Czeczewo-Trzy Rzeki, Pomieczyno, Hejtus and Sianowo. Its seasonal designation is a practical distinction: walking and cycling are specified as year-round activities, while cross-country skiing is explicitly for winter. The riding trail following in the footsteps of General Chodowiecki between Gdańsk and Berlin also passes through Pomieczyno. The local descriptions thus mention cycling, Nordic walking, walking, winter cross-country skiing and horseback riding, each with its own named route.

Landscape Features

The landscape features also have different spatial references. The Dębica lake trough runs through Pomieczyno and is part of local ecological corridors. The buffer zone of the Kashubian Landscape Park lies in the western part of Pomieczyno. The lake trough therefore describes a course through the locality, while the buffer zone refers to its western part. Together with the routes, these features provide a concrete guide for choosing what to focus on: you can make culture and remembrance your priority or plan your stay around one of the activities and landscape features mentioned.
