Grabowo brings together two distinct themes for a culture-focused stay: the manor and park complex, with its manor house and landscaped park, and the Church of St. John the Baptist. This places a historic manor ensemble and the architectural history of a church side by side as separate areas of interest. If you are planning to visit the manor and park complex, check access arrangements in advance.

Manor House and Manor Park

The historic manor house was built by the Wag family and, together with the landscaped park, forms part of the manor and park complex in Grabowo. This ensemble brings together a historic building and landscaped grounds as distinct points of interest. It offers two perspectives on the area’s history: the manor house represents the history of the estate, while the park represents its grounds. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you would rather explore historic architecture, parks or both.

The manor park covers approximately four hectares and includes water features as well as a vegetable and fruit garden. Water and cultivation are distinct features within the same grounds. The kitchen garden adds food cultivation to the park landscape, while the water features provide another landscape focus. The park’s size and individual features give you several points of reference if you look for gardens and landscaped outdoor spaces when choosing a destination. This gives the park its own character alongside the manor house.

Church of St. John the Baptist

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built between 1842 and 1845 and is late Neoclassical in style. Extensions followed in 1937 and 1956. This chronology helps distinguish the original building from later alterations. Specific structural changes are also noted for the 1937 extension: side aisles were added and the presbytery was lengthened. This makes it possible to trace the building’s history not only by year, but also by the changes described for one of the extensions.

A side aisle is a section of a church beside the main nave; the presbytery is the area around the altar. The description of the 1937 work therefore identifies both an extension to the sides and a lengthening of the presbytery. Together with its late Neoclassical classification, these offer two different ways to approach the architecture: its stylistic designation and its structural changes. This distinction helps place the church in context not only through its construction dates, but also through its architectural features.

Two distinct perspectives on Grabowo

The themes differ considerably when choosing a cultural focus. The manor and park complex brings together the manor house built by the Wag family and the landscaped park with its water features and kitchen gardens. At the church, the focus is on its construction dates, late Neoclassical style and later extensions. If you would rather explore the history of manors and landscapes as you plan your trip, the complex offers a different thematic approach from church architecture.
