Supraśl combines theater history and icon art with marked routes and guided walks. When choosing a hotel or other accommodation in Supraśl, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: Would you like to prioritize the town’s culture, or also include walks, a cycling route, or a water route? The options vary in theme, route length, and seasonal relevance.
Theater History and Icon Art
Teatr Wierszalin is based in Supraśl. It was founded in 1991 by director Piotr Tomaszuk and a group of artists who worked with him. The theater has received the Fringe First three times, an award presented at the international theater festival in Edinburgh. Supraśl therefore offers a tangible connection to theater, explored through the theater’s founding, its artistic founder, and its awards.
The Muzeum Ikon w Supraślu offers a different cultural focus: its permanent exhibition features canonical icon paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Theater history and icon art thus stand alongside one another as distinct subjects. If you want to give your trip a cultural focus, you can plan around these two highlights without combining them into a single sightseeing itinerary.
Marked Routes and Guided Walks
The green-marked, 35-kilometer Szlak Borami Dorzecza Supraśli passes through Supraśl. The town is considered a tourist center of the Puszcza Knyszyńska and has a cluster of historic buildings dating from the 17th to the 19th century.
The yellow-marked Szlak Supraski is 17 kilometers long. It runs from Supraśl via Podsupraśl, the Jałówka nature reserve, Ożynnik, and Złota Wieś to Czarny Blok, passing through forest areas. Conditions there are considered good for cross-country skiing in winter. The route lengths provide an initial basis for comparison; the Szlak Supraski also has a specific connection to winter.
Szwędaczki Supraskie are guided walks lasting about 1.5 hours, led by a guide and accompanied by the characters Wodnik, Rusałka, Biała Dama, and Duch Puszczy. They are intended for organized groups and individual visitors. The starting point is the Kopart shop on ul. 3-go Maja in Supraśl. If you plan to join one of these walks, confirm current availability in advance.
Water and Cycling Routes
The blue-marked Kresowe Wędrówki kayaking route is approximately 80 kilometers long and runs through Supraśl, among other places. It adds a water route to the land routes; the stated length refers to the entire kayaking route, not just the section through the town.
One suggested cycling route, about 20 kilometers long, runs from Most na Zajmie via Krzemienne, Surażkowo, Łaźnie, and Kopna Góra to Supraśl. Check the route’s condition before setting out. There is also a dry salt graduation tower in the Ogrod Saski in Supraśl, classified as a medical device. If you would like to include it in your plans, check the latest operating information in advance.
