Kamienica brings together several clearly dated chapters in local and church history: references to the settlement date back to the mid-13th century, while the history of its parish and church buildings add further milestones. Distinguishing between the dates is useful when planning your trip. An early reference to the settlement, the founding of a parish, and the construction of a church describe different developments. The historical focus is therefore not a single year, but a series of changes spanning several centuries.

Settlement and Parish in Chronological Order

Kamienica is mentioned as early as the mid-13th century. The parish was probably founded in the first half of the 14th century; however, it was not mentioned for the first time until 1425. The founding and first mention are different points in time: one indicates the probable beginning of the parish, while the other is the year in which it was first mentioned. To put the history in context, it is therefore not just a matter of identifying the earliest year. The local and parish histories have different milestones; both dates belong to Kamienica’s past, but they refer to different events.

Churches from Different Centuries

A church in Kamienica dedicated to the Ten Thousand Martyrs is recorded in 1449. A dedication is the placing of a church under the patronage of a saint or a group of saints. In the mid-16th century, another wooden church with two side chapels was built in Kamienica. It was consecrated by Andrzej Noskowski, Bishop of Płock. The early reference from 1449 and the later construction mark different stages; the latter is described more specifically through its building material, side chapels, and the bishop who consecrated it.

From Wooden Chapel to the Church of Divine Providence

A wooden chapel built in 1916 served as the parish church for almost thirty years. The parish church complex of Divine Providence in Kamienica includes a brick church built between 1936 and 1950. The new church in Kamienica was solemnly blessed on 2 September 1945, and services began there afterwards. Bishop Tadeusz Paweł Zakrzewski consecrated the church on 17 May 1950. The construction period, the start of services, and the consecration thus mark different stages in the church’s history.

New stained-glass windows were donated to the church in Kamienica in the 1990s. As a later addition, this gift came well after the church’s construction, blessing, and consecration. The church-related history thus spans medieval references through to a later change in the 20th century.

Another Historical Connection

The remains of a 19th-century manor park are also part of Kamienica’s history. Alongside the parish’s founding, dedications, and church buildings, the park is another distinct historical feature. For travelers interested in cultural history, this broadens the picture beyond church history. If you are considering Kamienica as a destination, a clear thematic focus emerges: the phases of church construction and the history of the manor park stand side by side as distinct historical subjects.
