If you’re looking for a cultural focus for your trip, Myszyniec brings together church architecture, regional history, and Kurpie traditions. The town is considered the heart of Green Kurpie and the region’s administrative, commercial, and cultural center. It is located in Ostrołęka County in the Masovian Voivodeship and is an urban-rural municipality. In the town center stand the Minor Basilica of the Holy Trinity and the bell tower; both are important landmarks in the architectural history of the town.

Bell Tower and Church Architecture

The bell tower is the oldest surviving building in Myszyniec and in Kurpie. It has three stories and dates from the 18th century; it was built in 1708 by the Jesuit order. The tower features Baroque sculptures and historic iron shackles. These specific features provide a firm chronological reference point for the town’s architectural history. Myszyniec’s historic architecture also bears traces of a history dating back to the 17th century.

The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity reflects a different architectural period: it was built between 1909 and 1922 as a Neo-Gothic brick church. The five-aisled structure has a transept, and the facade has two towers. Baroque side altars dating from 1720 to 1730 are also part of the church. The church’s architecture thus brings together Neo-Gothic forms and Baroque furnishings—two distinct periods within Myszyniec’s religious architecture.

Kurpie Culture at the Museum and Events

A regional multimedia museum is housed in the bell tower and is open from May to October. Its exhibitions, regional presentations, and educational materials cover Kurpie history and traditions. The museum thus links the historic building with an introduction to the region. Seasonal visiting arrangements may change; check them before your trip.

RCKK events introduce audiences to traditional Kurpie crafts, dance, music, and cuisine. They also include workshops in folk singing, dance, and crafts, such as Kurpie paper cutouts, Easter decorations, and sculpture. The different formats give you several ways to plan your visit: you can combine a museum visit with an event or workshop if the dates fall within your travel period. As event and workshop schedules may change, check the dates in advance.

Memorial Sites and a Nearby Destination

Myszyniec’s historical heritage also includes the old Roman Catholic parish cemetery and a monument to the insurgents of 1863. Together with the churches, these sites broaden the picture beyond architecture to include other aspects of the town’s history.

If you’d also like to explore the surrounding area, the Jezioro Krusko Route starts at the Serafin forester’s lodge on Route 645 between Myszyniec and Łomża. You can park your car and get information at the starting point. This makes the route’s starting point distinct from the centrally located buildings: the basilica and bell tower are in the town center, while the route begins at the forester’s lodge. Access arrangements may change; check local conditions before setting off.
