Płaciszewo combines its connections to the Wkra River with a local history that goes back to medieval forms of the village’s name. The kayak section to Sochocin has a clearly specified time range; traces of historic settlement broaden the picture of today’s Glinojeck municipality. Water-based activities and cultural history therefore offer separate reasons to stay.

On the Wkra: Bridge, Mill Traces and Time Frame

A municipal road bridge over the Wkra connects Goszczyce Poświętne and Płaciszewo. Just beyond the Płaciszewo waypoint on the kayak route, the visible piles of a former water mill follow in quick succession. Depending on the water level, the piles may be easier or harder to see.

The Płaciszewo–Sochocin section of the Wkra kayak route is 15.4 kilometres long, with an estimated duration of four to five hours. The duration may vary depending on conditions. This range is a useful guide for planning your day: the section is a multi-hour activity in its own right, not just a brief stop.

The Wkra is used for kayaking. Glinojeck also has a large bathing area. If you are planning a visit to swim, check in advance whether the area is currently open.

History at the Village and Municipality Levels

Medieval records mention Płaciszewo from 1402 under varying forms of its name. The village name thus provides an early historical reference point, offering a different perspective in time from the settlement history of the Partitions period.

In the present-day Glinojeck municipality, Płaciszewo is one of the villages of the minor nobility where German colonists settled during the Partitions. By the mid-19th century, these villages were among the places in the area with the largest concentrations of German colonists.

The medieval forms of the name and the later settlement history tell of different periods: one concerns the written history of the village name, the other the settlement of German colonists in several villages in today’s municipality. This makes it possible to distinguish the early written record of the name from the later development of the municipal area.

Historical Traces and Landscape in the Municipality

Glinojeck retains remains of a 19th-century manor and farm building complex, as well as fragments of a medieval fortified settlement on the Wkra. Some elements are privately owned or survive only in fragments. The two historical traces therefore point to different periods and types of settlement remains.

The Nadwkrzański Protected Area also extends into Glinojeck municipality. It is considered an area with diverse ecosystems and valuable for tourism and recreation. This adds a nature and recreation perspective at the municipal level to the historical themes.

Choose the Focus of Your Stay

When looking for a holiday apartment, this suggests a practical way to prioritise: the kayak section is a clearly defined block of several hours, while the history spans several periods and themes.
