Trzciel combines a medieval heritage with hiking and cycling trails, as well as a kayaking route on the Obra. For planning a trip, several different focuses are available: the historic town, routes along the Obra Valley and several lakes, and a water route that includes a visit to the town. The options can be distinguished by their destinations and landscape features.

History and Wicker Weaving

Trzciel is home to a medieval hillfort dating from the mid-13th century. The historic urban layout is also one of the significant historic cultural sites. The hillfort and the layout represent different aspects of the cultural heritage: a medieval fortification on the one hand, and the historic structure of the town on the other. Wickerwork is considered a hallmark of the town of Trzciel. For centuries, abundant stands of wild willow have shaped the surrounding area; willow is used as a material for wickerwork. The town’s identity and the landscape are thus connected through willow as a material.

Hiking Trails Along the Valley and Lakes

There are two routes with different features for walking. A nature trail leads from Trzciel along the edge of the Obra Valley to Łysa Góra. The blue hiking trail runs from Trzciel to Pszczew, following Lakes Konin, Wielkie and Chłop. The difference lies in the landscape features described: the nature trail follows the edge of the valley, while the route to Pszczew is oriented around three named lakes. You can choose according to the destinations and landscapes along each route.

Cycling Routes with Different Courses

The cycling routes I also follow different courses. The red cycling route I runs from the Czarna Droga nature reserve via Brójce, Chociszewo and Jasieniec to Trzciel. The blue cycling route I leads from Lake Konin via Trzciel and Lutol Mokry to the road to Dąbrówka Wielkopolska. The green cycling route I runs from the bridge over the Obra near Rybojady via Rybojady to Trzciel. Trzciel is therefore the endpoint of the red and green routes; the blue route passes through the town. A map of cycling routes is also available for the Trzciel municipality, helping you find your way along these routes.

Kayaking on the Obra

The kayaking route on the Obra offers another way to include Trzciel in your trip: paddlers can stop in the town, visit it and buy supplies for the next part of their tour. Here, the stop combines the water route with a town visit and the chance to stock up along the way.

Lakes, Forests and Marshland

The lakes and forests of Trzciel are considered landscapes suitable for recreation. Nearby is the “Rybojady” nature reserve: it lies 4 km northwest of Trzciel and protects one of the largest peat bogs in the Lubusz Lakeland. The protected marshland and its location thus complement the local trails and the Obra as additional natural features to consider when planning a trip.
