Zwierzyniec combines architectural history from the 18th and late 19th centuries with a church on a pond island, exhibitions at the national park, and trails with named points of interest. Different priorities can shape your trip planning: historic architecture, a bookable group visit, or a route. If you are interested in local history, the buildings’ construction dates and present-day uses are as informative as the church’s location; on the trails, the route and points of interest matter.

Historic Buildings and Their Present-Day Uses

The residence of the Plenipotentiary of the Zamoyski Entail was built in 1889–1890 and is now the headquarters of Roztocze National Park. Four Neoclassical side buildings were constructed in the 18th century; today, they house the Jan Zamoyski School Complex of Woodworking and Environmental Protection. The buildings thus differ in their construction dates, style, and present-day function—three perspectives on local history. The residence is associated with the national park, while the side buildings are used for education. This brings both different construction periods and different institutional functions into focus.

The Church on the Pond Island

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk was built in 1741–1747 on one of the four islands in the pond created by Jan Sobiepan Zamoyski. Tomasz Antoni and Teresa Aniela Zamoyscy were its founders. Its construction, like that of the side buildings, dates to the 18th century, while the residence dates from 1889–1890. The island location connects the church with the man-made pond. Together, the construction date, founders, and location give the church a specific historical and geographical context.

Group Visits to the Education and Museum Centre

At the Roztocze National Park information point in Zwierzyniec, groups can book visits to the permanent exhibition “In the Land of Fir, Beech and Tarpan” and the temporary exhibitions at the park’s Education and Museum Centre. The offer is for groups; check the current booking arrangements before finalizing your plans. When organizing your visit, it is important to distinguish between the booking location and the exhibition location: bookings are made at the information point in Zwierzyniec, while the exhibitions are at the park’s Education and Museum Centre. You can therefore enquire about either the permanent exhibition or the temporary exhibitions.

Trails with Different Points of Interest

The yellow-marked Piaseczna Góra Nature Trail runs from the Monument to Fallen Foresters via Piaseczna Góra to Zwierzyniec’s Old Town and features a viewpoint. The trail description specifies a starting point, an intermediate point, and a destination; the viewpoint provides an additional point of reference. The 67 km Obwodnica Roztoczańskiego Parku Narodowego (Roztocze National Park Loop) runs from Zwierzyniec to Florianka. Different details matter when comparing the two: the loop’s total length and endpoints, while the nature trail stands out for its specific route and viewpoint. On the nature trail, the monument, Piaseczna Góra, and the Old Town can be identified as waypoints; for the Obwodnica, Zwierzyniec and Florianka are the endpoints of the 67 km route. Check the current trail markers and conditions on site before setting out.
