A 17-kilometre circular trail starts and ends at Susiec railway station: the blue Szlak Szumów gives hiking plans a clear starting point. The entire route takes about six hours of walking, excluding breaks, without the suggested shortcut via the yellow trail. Breaks are in addition to this walking time.

Hiking trails and specific walking times

The yellow-marked Szlak Południowy is also about 17 kilometres long. From Susiec railway station, it leads past the waterfall on the Jeleń, the Nad Tanwią Nature Reserve, Rebizanty, Korkosze and Huta Szumy to Narol. The blue trail ends back at the station, while the yellow trail leads to Narol: the two routes therefore differ not only in their markings, but also in their courses and destinations.

Along the blue Szlak Szumów, about a 30-minute walk from the starting point, is a 1.5-metre-high waterfall on the Jeleń, protected as a natural monument. Another point along the trail is a reed-covered wetland, considered a habitat for birds, about an hour and a half's walk from the start. Nearby Wzgórze Kościółek can be reached from Susiec along the blue trail in about an hour and a half on foot. This means that the same hiking route offers different destinations, each with its own walking-time estimate.

Waterfalls, river valleys and woodland views

The nearby Nad Tanwią Nature Reserve protects particularly valuable stretches of the Jeleń and Tanew river valleys, with rows of small waterfalls. Established in 1958, it covers about 41 hectares and lies at an elevation of around 235 metres above sea level. Together with the waterfall on the Jeleń, it illustrates the difference between a single natural monument and a protected landscape featuring several stretches of river and rows of waterfalls.

In Susiec, the observation tower offers views of striped fields and the extensive Puszcza Solska forest complex. There are benches and a bicycle shelter next to the viewpoint. The tower adds another view of fields and forest to the hiking trails; the benches and shelter are right at the viewpoint.

Culture in Susiec and the surrounding area

Susiec is home to the historic Church of St. John of Nepomuk. At the entrance to the village is a monument to Kargul and Pawlak. Both sites add local cultural attractions to the landscape and trail destinations, without requiring you to plan an additional hiking route.

Nearby Wzgórze Kościółek is also known as Zamczysko. An earthen rampart surrounds the remains of a castle complex dating from the 12th to 13th centuries. A cross and a monument commemorate insurgents and partisans who hid there during the January Uprising and the last war. The hill thus combines an archaeological trace with memorials to various historical events.

In nearby Oseredek, the fire service museum displays historic fire pumps, fire engines and uniforms. If you plan to visit the museum, check its opening hours in advance.
