By the Biała Łada river lies the Zespół Młyński in Biłgoraj; the mill complex was established in the mid-19th century. It includes a protected 19th-century granary and a miller’s house from the same period. The house was moved from Ogrodowa Street in Biłgoraj to the complex grounds. Its date of origin, protected status and relocation give the site several concrete historical points of reference. The Zagroda Sitarska in Biłgoraj also dates from the 19th century and offers another perspective on the city’s architectural history.

Mill Complex, Museum and City History

The Muzeum Ziemi Biłgorajskiej preserves more than 10,000 objects relating to archaeology, ethnography, history, military affairs, numismatics and art. The collections are made accessible through permanent and temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibition “Nad Tanwią i Ładą” explores the history of Biłgoraj and its surroundings; check before your visit whether it is currently on display. This offers different ways to encounter the past: the buildings and relocation at the mill complex, another historic building at the Zagroda Sitarska, and the museum’s extensive collection.

Hiking Trails Between Roztocze and the Forest

Biłgoraj lies in a flat, pine-forested part of the Sandomierz Basin, at the foot of Roztocze and near the Tanew valley. The hiking trails also lead through different landscapes and toward different destinations. The Roztocze Hiking Trail runs from the Biłgoraj Plain through Western Roztocze to Zwierzyniec, passing through Biłgoraj along the way. The yellow Roztocze Hiking Trail runs through the city of Biłgoraj and the municipalities of Biłgoraj, Tereszpol, Radecznica and Zwierzyniec. The blue trail through the Puszcza Solska connects Biłgoraj with Górecko Kościelne. After its initial section through the city, it continues through the forests of the Puszcza Solska.

Your choice depends on which landscape and destination interest you: Western Roztocze with Zwierzyniec, or the forest route through the Puszcza Solska to Górecko Kościelne. Biłgoraj lies along the first trail and is connected to the destination of the second. Marked hiking and cycling trails run in whole or in part through the wider Powiat biłgorajski district. Check current trail conditions before setting out on a specific route.

Cycling and Time at Zalew Bojary

The blue Biłgoraj–Osuchy cycling trail is 38 km long. Much of it runs through the Tanew valley; the route also passes through the city of Biłgoraj and the municipalities of Biłgoraj, Księżpol and Łukowa. The named landscapes and destinations provide orientation for hiking, while the cycling trail also has a specific total length. This lets you compare the options by route type and landscape.

At Zalew Bojary, you can rent water equipment, including kayaks and bicycles. The grounds include sunbathing areas, a pier and fishing spots. There are also volleyball courts and a children’s playground. A visit to Biłgoraj can focus on historic buildings and museum collections, hiking or cycling trails, or the facilities at Zalew Bojary.
