The Kukuryki–Kozłowicze border crossing is located in Kukuryki on the Polish-Belarusian border. It connects Poland’s national road 68 with Belarus’s M1 highway. The crossing opened in 1984. If your trip depends on using it, check its current status separately.

Border Crossing and Geographical Orientation

The Bug is also part of the geographical context, but as a river border: along the stretch from Kukuryki to Gnojno, it forms the northeastern boundary of the “Podlaski Przełom Bugu” Landscape Park and, at the same time, the state border with Belarus. The crossing and the river are therefore different reference points for the border location: the crossing connects roads, while the Bug marks a boundary of the park.

Landscape in Terespol Municipality

The “Podlaski Przełom Bugu” Landscape Park was established in 1984 and extends across the Bug municipalities of Terespol, Rokitno, Janów Podlaski, Konstantynów and Sarnaki. In Terespol Municipality, the park covers 30,904 ha; its buffer zone covers a further 17,131 ha. The park area and buffer zone are listed separately. At 17,131 ha, the buffer zone is slightly more than half the size of the 30,904 ha park. These area figures describe a regional context that includes several municipalities. 1984 is a shared year for the Kukuryki–Kozłowicze border crossing and the “Podlaski Przełom Bugu” Landscape Park, but it marks two different events: the opening of the crossing and the establishment of the park.

The Bug is the park’s most important landscape feature. In Terespol Municipality, between the Bug and the Krzna, the “Szwajcaria Podlaska” strict nature reserve contains the park’s most diverse landscapes. The area is characterized by hills and ravines that slope towards the Bug floodplain. It also includes natural areas that have been altered by humans only slightly. The river, floodplain and landforms provide different geographical reference points for describing the landscape.

Border Location or Landscape Area?

Two different scales are useful when considering a stay. The border crossing is a specific location in Kukuryki; the park area, buffer zone and landforms belong to the wider context of Terespol Municipality and the landscape park. The park extends across several municipalities, while the hills and ravines described here are located in Terespol Municipality. This helps distinguish the local road connection from the regional landscape area.

If your trip is primarily based on the border location, the crossing and road connection are the main focus. For a landscape-oriented stay, the Bug, Krzna, Bug floodplain, hills and ravines offer relevant geographical reference points. When looking for a holiday rental in Kukuryki, you can first decide whether the border connection or the wider landscape area better suits the purpose of your trip.
