Bogatynia combines a distinctive Lusatian building tradition with churches reflecting different periods of architectural history and Aquatynia’s seasonal leisure activities. You can choose the focus of your stay: architectural heritage, the town’s cultural programme or summer recreation.
Timber-framed houses and local history
Bogatynia developed from the old Lusatian linear village of Rychłów, which lay along the Miedzianka, a right-bank tributary of the Lusatian Neisse. The *Umgebinde* and log-building style, also known as Lusatian architecture, is a landmark of the town. Lusatian half-timbered architecture using post-and-beam and log construction, characteristic of 17th- and 18th-century architecture, shapes Bogatynia and the surrounding villages.
One example of the local building tradition is the Lusatian *Umgebinde* house at Aleja Żytawska 32. It was built in the first half of the 19th century and is located in the historic centre of Bogatynia. Aleja Żytawska was formerly called Waryńskiego Street. It was almost completely destroyed in the 2010 flood and then extensively renovated; the work included the roadway, pavements, lighting and street furniture.
The Open *Umgebinde* Houses Day takes place every year on the last Sunday in May. A guided walk along the *Umgebinde* house route was held as part of the event. Themed tour of Bogatynia was led by licensed Sudetes guide Aneta Strojanowska.
Churches and cultural programme
The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Bogatynia was built in 1868 by the Cistercian order as a monastery church. St Peter and Paul offers a different architectural accent: the church is Baroque and contains remains of an earlier Gothic church building. It also has a rich collection of epitaphs from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Bogatyński Ośrodek Kultury complements the themes of architectural history and churches with a cultural programme. This includes competitions, performances and concerts, as well as film screenings at the “Kadr 3D” cinema. If a specific event date matters for your stay, check the dates in advance.
Summer recreation at Aquatynia
The Aquatynia leisure pool, which opened in 2025, offers seasonal summer activities with water slides, as well as outdoor relaxation and recreation for families. Specific facilities include a shallow children’s pool and colourful slides, including a double slide and the “Słonik” slide. Next to the pool is a sunbathing lawn with shade sails. The site also has a sand court for recreational and sports games with friends. The sunbathing lawn and sand court complement the water attractions with opportunities to relax and play on land.
For choosing when to visit, the annual Open *Umgebinde* Houses Day and Aquatynia’s seasonal summer offer are different points of reference. If you would like to plan your stay around one of these, check the event or visitor information for your dates.
