In Lubin County, you can explore cultural history, hiking trails, cycling routes and nature through specific places. Lubin shapes the selection with its zoo, museum and historic buildings; in Ścinawa, the Oder, canoe route and floodplain habitats come into focus. Which highlights interest you also depends on whether you are planning to explore urban history, longer hiking routes or nature by the water.

Lubin: Nature Trails and Urban History

The Ogród Zoologiczny w Lubinie has the educational and tourist trail “Fauna Polski,” which includes a European bison enclosure. The trail opened in 2023. Another themed trail at the zoo, the Szlak Ptaków, leads to aviaries containing more than 60 bird species from Poland and around the world. The two trails offer different focuses: one explores Polish fauna, while the other showcases a wide variety of birds.

The city’s history can also be seen in various places. At the railway station in Lubin is the open-air exhibition “Pionierzy lubińscy 1945”; it includes the restored Ty2-22 locomotive. The town hall was built in 1768–1769 and now houses the Muzeum Historyczne w Lubinie. Its outdoor area is in Park Leśny.

Other historic buildings include the 14th-century city walls and a defensive tower from the same period on ul. Tysiąclecia. Both are listed in the register of historic monuments. Together with the town hall and museum locations, they give Lubin a selection spanning different periods and forms of remembrance.

Compare Hiking Trails by Length and Route

The hiking routes in the county differ in both length and classification. The black local Szlak spacerowy is 11.5 km long and runs from Lubin through Obora to Szklary Górne. The red local Szlak dookoła Lubina is 85.5 km long. For a longer route, there is the red Szlak Dziadoszan: at around 129 km, it is a regional trail and part of the county’s trail network.

The blue Szlak Odry is a 256 km national hiking trail in the Kraina Łęgów Odrzańskich region. In Lubin County, it passes through Ścinawa and Chobienia. The county’s 2022 cultural heritage programme also lists the blue PTTK hiking trail DS.-175-n, which is 99.9 km long and runs through the county. The routes therefore cover very different distances and geographic areas; when choosing a hiking route, it is worth considering these details separately.

The Way of St James offers another regional connection: the section of the pan-European route that runs through Lubin County is called Miedziana Droga Św. Jakuba and has a historic character. The Dolina Zimnicy educational trail is within the city limits of Lubin. Alongside the longer hiking trails, a named local educational trail and a section of the Way of St James are therefore distinct options in the area.

Cycling, Canoeing and Nature Along the Oder

The 52 km Trasa z Lubina do Górzyna is a cycling route from Lubin through Składowice, Toszowice, Miłogoszcz and Górzyn, as well as Tymowa and Siedlce, before returning to Lubin. It is clearly different from the hiking trails described above: this is a circular route with several named places and a specific total distance.

On the water, the 18 km Pętla ścinawsko-chobieńska connects Ścinawa with Chobienia. Check the current launch and return options before setting out. The canoe route passes close to the “Ścinawskie Bagna” ecological landscape feature. Rare waterbirds occur there, including the Eurasian teal, western marsh harrier, Montagu’s harrier and Eurasian oystercatcher. The municipality of Ścinawa also includes the “Łęgi Odrzańskie” natural area and oxbow lakes; these lakes provide habitats for numerous plant and animal species.

Ścinawa is also home to an inland port on the Oder. The area can therefore be explored through different themes: Lubin brings together historic buildings, a museum and a zoo, while Ścinawa is associated with the Oder, a canoe route and floodplain habitats. If you are looking for accommodation, these highlights can help you plan your trip around the experiences that interest you most.
