Jeżów Sudecki combines a circular route through varied terrain with tangible traces of its history. For your stay, you can focus on the cycling tour or include historical features in the town and nearby area. When looking for a hotel, it helps to first consider which of these aspects you would like to explore more closely.

Cycling on the Obwodnica Srebrna

The yellow-marked “Obwodnica Srebrna” cycling route is 33.9 kilometres long and loops around Jeżów Sudecki. Its terrain is varied: the route includes paved roads, field and forest tracks, and hilly sections. So the distance is only one part of the picture when planning. The surface and terrain also shape the ride; take both into account when planning your day.

The route is well marked and equipped with information boards. As markings and boards can change over time, check the current signage and local conditions before setting off. The route offers views of the Karkonosze, Rudawy Janowickie and Góry Kaczawskie. Which views you see depends on the section and the conditions.

If you want to include both cycling and the town’s historical features, you can treat the loop as a separate part of your plans and set aside time for the town’s history. This gives you two distinct options: a specific route through varied terrain, or individual buildings and memorials.

Historical features in the town and surrounding area

Dom Gwarków is a historic miners’ tavern dating from 1601. Sgraffito decorations in the form of small rosettes have been preserved on the facade panels.

Another historical feature is the Krzyż Kozacki: the Latin cross stands on the road to Płoszczyna near Jeżów Sudecki and measures 82 × 58 × 24 centimetres. Unlike Dom Gwarków, it is a single cross rather than a building with facade decoration. Kościół św. Michała Archanioła dates from 1574, but lies well outside the village, between Jeżów Sudecki and Strupice, now the Zabobrze residential area of Jelenia Góra.

Gliding history above Jeżów Sudecki

Góra Szybowcowa, at 561 metres, lies above Jeżów Sudecki and is therefore nearby. In the 1920s and 1930s, it was one of the world’s best gliding centres. After 1924, the second gliding school in Germany—and in the world—was established in Jeżów Sudecki and at Szybowisko. The Aeroklub Jeleniogórski was founded on Góra Szybowcowa in 1946.

At the summit are an airfield, a hangar and the Galeria Lotniczych Sław. If you plan to visit, check current operating conditions beforehand. This helps distinguish the historical significance of gliding from present-day visiting conditions, without treating the two as the same.
