A park covering almost nine hectares in the heart of Zduńska Wola, a restored Weaver’s House and several reminders of the city’s industrial history give the city clearly distinct themes. You can shape your stay around different interests: the life of Maksymilian Kolbe, the development of crafts and factories, or the history of a centrally located green space. When planning, it is worth first considering which of these perspectives matters most to you.
Birthplace and Weaver’s House
The Muzeum Dom Urodzenia św. Maksymiliana Kolbego is located in the house where Maksymilian Kolbe was born. It is also a restored Weaver’s House. The exhibition is spread across five rooms. This makes the site a specific biographical landmark as well as a building recognized for its history as a weaver’s house. This distinguishes it from the themes more closely focused on the city’s economic development.
Industrial history in buildings and the museum
The Szlak Fabryczny follows the industrial thread. It comprises twelve buildings that housed the city’s largest factories; information boards mark the buildings. The focus, then, is not on a single company, but on the industrial past represented by several buildings.
Two other names offer distinct historical perspectives. Manufaktura Złotnickiego is one of the oldest manufactories in Zduńska Wola and is associated with the industrial activities of Stefan Złotnicki, the city’s founder. Fabryka Józefa Sznajdra was established in 1893 by Oskar Sznajder and was initially a small cotton weaving mill. The comparison points to two different connections: one manufactory’s ties to the city’s founder, and a named founding year alongside the founder and the factory’s initial form of production.
The Muzeum Historii Miasta Zduńska Wola complements these specific business connections with a broader look at the city’s industrial and craft development in the 19th century. Its collection consists mainly of archival materials on this subject and includes more than 10,000 exhibits. The collection’s perspective thus differs from the building-focused approach of the Szlak Fabryczny and the founding stories of individual businesses: the museum focuses on the city’s development.
Green spaces and planning your visit
Park Miejski adds the perspective of a green space to the industrial and museum themes. It covers almost nine hectares, lies in the heart of the city and was created around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as Zenon Anstadt’s private garden. Its origins as a private garden give the park a distinct historical dimension, different from the stories of factories and museums.
