Plan a stay in Warta around cultural history and outdoor activities by exploring specific sites and routes. The Bernardine monastery and St. Nicholas Parish Church represent different historical periods; the walking and cycling routes, as well as the canoe route, each have named destinations. For your trip, it is worth considering the routes separately: their starting and ending points differ. This will help you decide whether to focus on religious buildings, a route on foot or by bike, or the stretch of the Warta River.

Monastery, Church and Museum

The first Bernardine monastery and the first Bernardine church in Warta were founded in 1467. A new, brick-built Bernardine monastery complex was constructed later, between 1482 and 1497, in the Gothic style. The founding and construction of the new complex are therefore distinct historical periods. The monastery is currently used by members of the religious order. The complex is open year-round; visits are possible by telephone appointment or between religious services. Confirm the visiting arrangements before your visit.

St. Nicholas Parish Church is in the centre of Warta, near the southwestern corner of the market square. It was built around 1340 in the Gothic style; its interior was remodelled in the 17th century. It offers a further perspective on the town’s architectural history from a different period. Its central location on the market square is also a useful landmark when including the churches in your exploration of Warta.

The Muzeum Miasta i Rzeki Warty organizes workshops and cultural events. In addition to the historic buildings, it offers events that can provide a reason to visit. If you plan to attend a particular workshop or event, check its date before your trip.

Routes on Foot, by Bike and on the Water

The walking routes can be distinguished by their different destinations. The green “im. Władysława Reymonta” hiking trail passes through Duszniki and ends at Warta’s market square. The blue hiking trail starts at the museum in Warta and continues to the bridge over the Warta River. The routes therefore have different points of reference: the market square for the green trail and the bridge for the blue one. You can choose the trail whose described destination best suits your plans.

The red “Łódzka Magistrala Rowerowa” is designated for cycling. It is also an international west–east cycling route and runs from Głaniszew to Warta, continuing towards Pierzchnia Góra. Its direction and route differ from those of the two hiking trails: this is a cycling route connecting Warta with places on either side. The routes can therefore be compared by mode of travel and destination, without treating them as one continuous route.

The canoe trail on the Warta is described in two stages: 17 km from Sieradz to Warta, followed by 21 km from Warta to Księże Młyny. The distances refer to each individual stage. When planning, distinguish between Warta as the destination of the first stage and as the starting point for the next stretch.

Views and Places Nearby

From Górka Cmentarna, you can enjoy a view of Warta and the river valley. The Jeziorsko Reservoir is also located near Warta, between Skęczniew and Warta, on the border between Łódź Voivodeship and Greater Poland. These details point to two different locations: the view over the town and river valley, and the reservoir’s location in the surrounding area.

In Ostrów Warcki, within the Warta municipality, there is a beach area, pedal boats and two water ski lifts. These amenities are in Ostrów Warcki, not in central Warta. If you include the municipality in your travel plans, this distinction can help you decide where to focus your stay.
