Kluki spans a range of historical periods, from the historic village layout, dated to 1136, to the castle built in the 1920s and a war cemetery from 1939. It also features the six-hectare manor park. When planning your visit, it is also worth considering two geographical levels: the village of Kluki and other destinations and routes in the municipality it belongs to.

History in Kluki and Kaszewice

The historic village layout of Kluki is dated to 1136. The castle was built much later, in the 1920s, on the walls of a former distillery belonging to the Cistercian abbey. Thus, Kluki brings together an early date for its village layout and a building history that traces back to a former monastic distillery. The village is also home to a war cemetery from 1939. These three historical points of reference represent different periods: the history of the village, the construction of the castle and remembrance of 1939.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Kaszewice offers a different architectural perspective. It was built in 1612 by Michał Koniecpolski and is an example of wooden sacred architecture in the municipality of Kluki. Kaszewice is a separate place within the municipality, not Kluki itself. In terms of architectural history, this offers a clear contrast with the castle: a wooden church with a sacred function stands in contrast to a castle whose walls trace back to a former distillery.

Manor Park and Landscape

The manor park in Kluki is a landscape park dating from the 19th or 20th century and covers 6.0 hectares. Of this, 0.68 hectares are water. These figures indicate both the total area and the share made up of water, giving a tangible sense of the park’s scale. Its tree and shrub population includes 26 tree species aged between 60 and 200 years, as well as eight shrub species. The park can therefore be understood not only by its area, but also by the variety and age range of its trees.

In the municipality, the oak “Dąb Cygański” is considered a 900-year-old natural monument. A legend about Queen Jadwiga and Kluki is associated with it. Alongside the specific facts about the manor park, local tradition takes centre stage here: the landscape is defined both by characteristics of its trees and shrubs and by a story connected with Kluki.

Designated Routes and Road Connections

Different tourist routes are designated at the municipal level: the Widawka Water Trail, the Łódzka Magistrala Rowerowa N–S cycling route and the Łódzki Szlak Konny regional horse-riding trail. Their names make the different types of route clear—water, cycling and horse riding—and broaden the focus beyond the historic places. They are associated with the municipality of Kluki and complement topics specifically located in Kluki, such as the castle and manor park.

National Road 74 is also part of the wider geographical context: it runs for 8.6 kilometres through the municipality of Kluki and forms part of the Warsaw–Piotrków–Wrocław interregional connection. This is a different planning consideration from the tourist routes: the road connects the municipality to a long-distance route, while the designated routes are named according to their respective types.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Plans

When looking for a hotel in Kluki, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay. The castle, manor park and war cemetery are in the village; the Church of the Holy Trinity is in Kaszewice, and the routes mentioned are designated at the municipal level. Then compare specific hotel addresses with the places that matter most for your trip.
