Bukowno combines a distinctive landscape with practical opportunities to explore it on foot or by bike, as well as a regional-history perspective at the Regionalna Sala Muzealna. When planning your trip, it is important to bear in mind that the destinations and routes have different conditions: Diabla Góra offers views, forest and geology, while the cycling routes differ significantly in direction and surface.

Diabla Góra and the landscape of Bukowno

Diabla Góra lies 383 m above sea level and offers a viewpoint overlooking the surrounding area. Triassic limestone formations can be found on its slopes; the mountain is covered by a beech forest more than 250 years old. This natural destination brings together views, geological features and an old forest—three specific aspects that offer insight into the landscape of Bukowno.

The Sztoła is also part of the landscape’s history, but as an example of change: after the Olkusz-Pomorzany mine, which had previously supplied the river, was closed and the drainage pumps were switched off, the water level fell. The section of the watercourse in Bukowno disappeared. Alongside the enduring features of Diabla Góra, this development offers another perspective on the area: not only its natural features, but also the changes to its waterways.

Exploring on foot—with a clear limit on cave access

A blue- and green-marked educational trail runs at Diabla Góra. It is about 6.8 km long and showcases the area’s geological and natural features. Its approximate length and focus provide practical guidance for anyone interested in the landscape. The Triassic Cave is also located at Diabla Góra, but because of its difficulty and hazards, it is accessible only to experienced cavers. The cave and the educational trail are therefore not interchangeable: access to the cave is expressly restricted.

Cycling routes: distance and surface vary

A 38 km cycling route leads from Rabsztyn via Troks, Zimnodół, Żurada and Bukowno to Olkusz. Bukowno is therefore one section of a route with several named stops, not simply an isolated starting point or destination. For a ride south towards Diabla Góra, the forest-track cycling route is rideable and adds 3.9 km to the journey.

By contrast, sandy, unpaved paths lead north towards the Leśny Dwór reservoir; even pushing a bike there is very difficult. For planning, the specific difference between the directions is more useful than a general assessment of the cycling routes: to the south, the route is described as rideable, while to the north, the sandy surface poses a significant challenge. Route and surface conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

Regional history at the Regionalna Sala Muzealna

The Regionalna Sala Muzealna displays minerals from Bukowno and the surrounding area, everyday objects, items from Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze w Bukownie, as well as documents and photographs of the town. It also features topics related to the history of Polish money and postage stamps, along with reprints of newspapers from the Second World War. The collection thus spans natural finds and everyday life as well as industrial and local history.

The Regionalna Sala Muzealna also hosts meetings with regional history enthusiasts, the Klubu Literackiego „Bukowy Liść“ and the Klubu Regionalistów, as well as regional studies and museum classes. Together with the collections, these offer a cultural perspective on Bukowno that differs from the landscape around Diabla Góra.
