Ptaszkowa lies in a broad valley at an elevation of about 500 metres. Its nature trail, Gothic wooden church and sporting activities offer different points of interest: landscape and habitats, architectural and art history, or exercise. To plan your stay, first consider which of these aspects you would like to shape it.
Valley Views and Nature Trail
To the north, Rosochatka (753 m) and Koziniec (560 m) surround the village. To the south rises the Podstawne–Jaworze massif, with Podstawne (818 m) and Jaworze (882 m). These two sides and their specific elevations help define the valley’s setting; of the peaks mentioned, Jaworze is the highest. From the nature trail’s viewpoint, you can see Rosochatka, Koziniec and the centre of Ptaszkowa.
A small ecological reserve protecting valuable plant habitats is located along the nature trail. The trail also encompasses habitats for numerous insects and amphibians, including fire salamanders, grass frogs and common toads. Alongside the views, the focus is therefore also on plant and animal habitats.
Hiking Trails and Cycling Route
The nature trail shares part of its route with a separately marked Papal Trail. The routes therefore overlap in places, although the Papal Trail has its own markings. A blue hiking trail leads from Ptaszkowa to Krynica, while a green one runs from the summit to GrybĂłw. Their different starting points and destinations help distinguish the two routes. A mountain biking trail also runs alongside the observation tower.
Cross-Country Skiing and Ropes Course
The Centrum SportĂłw Zimowych in Ptaszkowa has paved, illuminated, artificially snowed and groomed cross-country ski trails measuring 1,000 and 1,600 metres. The two trail lengths differ by 600 metres. Check operating conditions before visiting in winter.
The ropes course consists of four separate routes at different heights and with varying difficulty levels. Height and difficulty are therefore features that distinguish the routes. The children’s route is intended mainly for children, but adults can use it too; it has 20 obstacles. Opening and booking conditions may change, so check them before your visit.
Wooden Church and Gothic Sculpture
The wooden church was built in 1555 in the Gothic style using log construction. Gothic style and log construction refer to different aspects: the architectural style and the construction method. Inside the church, the right side altar holds a Gothic Madonna and Child sculpture dating from around 1420. The dates distinguish the sculpture from the later church building. In log construction, horizontally stacked wooden beams are joined to form the walls.
Getting There and Your Stay
A railway line runs through Ptaszkowa, and train services may still operate on it. Before travelling, check whether passenger services and a suitable connection are available for your dates. This will help you coordinate your train journey with your stay and accommodation plans.
