A hiking trail with views of three geographical regions, two cycling routes of different lengths, and the history of a defensive castle make Brzyna interesting in several ways. The village lies in the Beskid Sądecki on the Dunajec and also stretches along the Brzynka stream. Its trails, landscape, and local history offer concrete points of reference for planning your visit to Brzyna.

Location and trails around Brzyna

Brzyna lies on the right bank of the Dunajec, opposite Jazowsko. Alongside the river, the Brzynka stream shapes the village: Brzyna stretches along its course. These geographical features place the village between two waterways and give your stay a clear connection to the surrounding landscape.

The yellow-marked hiking trail from Łącko to Dzwonkówka runs along the upper edge of Brzyna. From this trail, there are views of the Sądecka Basin, the Gorce, and the Beskid Wyspowy. The route is therefore notable not only for its course between the two places named, but also for its views of different geographical regions. Check the current condition of the trail and its markings before setting out.

For cyclists, an 8 km blue-marked route is described. It runs from Brzyna via Lipówki, Kretówki, Podwilcze, Obidza, and Opalanka to Jazowsko. A second route, 14 km long and marked in red, also leads to Jazowsko, running from Zarzecze via Łąckie Wyrobiska, Jaworzynka, Cebulówka, and Brzyna.

The two cycling routes can be distinguished by their lengths and courses: the shorter one starts in Brzyna, while the longer one starts in Zarzecze; both end in Jazowsko, and Brzyna lies along the longer route. The difference between their stated lengths is six kilometres. Check the current markings and trail conditions before your ride.

History and distinctive local features

In the 13th century, the defensive castle of Lemiesz stood in what is now Brzyna, above the hamlet of Misiołówka at the confluence of the Dunajec and the Obidza stream. It made it harder to cross the Radziejowa Range from the south and secured the descent into the Jazowsko Valley. The castle also guarded a mountain trade route from Hungary to Poland. Its history thus connects the defence of the valley with an important trade route.

Another distinctive feature can be found in the hamlet of Dział: beside the hiking trail, a one-metre-tall sculpture of the crucified Christ hangs from a larch tree. If you want to visit Dział specifically to see the sculpture, check in advance whether it is currently on display.

If hiking is your main interest, you can follow the yellow-marked route and enjoy its views. For a cycling trip, the two routes offer different lengths, colours, and courses; both end in Jazowsko. Those interested in local history can find a link to the 13th century and the castle’s historical role in Lemiesz. These different points of interest can help you choose Brzyna according to your travel preferences.
