A blue hiking trail and a green cycling route pass the castle ruins and the wooden church in Mała Nieszawka. The village is also home to the ruins of a Teutonic Order castle built in the 13th century and a war cemetery for Soviet soldiers established after 1945. The trails and historic sites offer different starting points for planning your trip: choosing a route and exploring the history of the village.

Hiking Trail and Cycling Route

The blue hiking trail runs from Toruń over a bridge, past Dybów Castle and Fort X, and along the flood embankment. In Mała Nieszawka, it passes beside the castle ruins and the wooden church; in Cierpice, it ends beside a cemetery and a church. The hiking route therefore leads from Toruń through the village to the aforementioned destinations in Cierpice.

The green cycling route runs from the direction of Dybów Castle and Fort X along the flood embankment. In Mała Nieszawka, it also passes beside the castle ruins and the wooden church. Farther on, it passes the municipal office, village houses, the Mennonite cemetery and the castle ramparts in Wielka Nieszawka. It continues via Dybów and Rojewo to the black trail. An extension to Inowrocław is planned.

Your choice depends on both the mode of transport and the route’s destinations: the blue hiking trail leads to Cierpice, while the green cycling route goes as far as the black trail; an extension to Inowrocław is planned. Before setting out, check the current trail markings and trail conditions.

Castle Ruins and Local History

The ruins of a Teutonic Order castle built in the 13th century are located in Mała Nieszawka. Another historical reference point is the war cemetery for Soviet soldiers established after 1945. These represent two widely separated periods in history: the medieval castle and the cemetery established later. Anyone interested in local history can explore these topics separately.

The cemeteries along the routes should also be distinguished carefully. The blue hiking trail ends in Cierpice beside a cemetery and a church; the green cycling route passes the Mennonite cemetery in Wielka Nieszawka. By contrast, the war cemetery for Soviet soldiers is in Mała Nieszawka. The place names therefore indicate different points along the routes.

Church and Trip Planning

The former Mennonite chapel is now the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is accessible during services, but access is restricted. If you would like to visit the church, check the access arrangements locally before planning your visit.

If you are looking for hotels for a trip to Mała Nieszawka, first decide what you would like to focus on during your stay: hiking, cycling or historic sites. The routes have different destinations, and the restricted access should be taken into account if you plan to visit the church.
