Lniano brings together a long history, wooden residential buildings and a named hiking trail. The village is located in Pomerania, on the border between Bory Tucholskie and the ethnic region of Kociewie. This offers two different ways to plan a trip: explore the village’s historical development or take a hike connecting Lniano and Cekcyn. The municipality also has a landscape feature of its own: eight lakes.

Village history from 1328 to 1983

The earliest written records of Lniano date from 1328. A document from that same year mentions the place as “Medio Lini” and describes it as a knight’s estate under Polish law. This anchors the village’s history in a specific medieval record; the church-related dates belong to considerably later periods.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lniano is included in the municipal register of monuments. The parish was founded in 1922, and the parish’s new church was consecrated on 8 September 1983. These are two distinct dates: the founding of the parish and the consecration of the new church. Anyone interested in church and local history will find not only the 14th-century document but also clearly dated events from the 20th century.

Wooden buildings as a distinct layer of history

Lniano has wooden residential houses from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as a wooden cottage from the late 19th century. Comparing them offers two perspectives: the houses span two centuries, while the cottage can be more specifically dated to the late 19th century. For the history of architecture, what matters is not only wood as a material, but also the connection between building type and period.

Hiking the black K. Sulisławski Trail

The black K. Sulisławski Trail connects Lniano with Cekcyn and passes through the Cisy Staropolskie Nature Reserve named after Leona Wyczółkowski in Wierzchlas. It complements the historical and architectural themes with an independent outdoor activity. Unlike the locally rooted historical landmarks, the trail passes through several named places and areas of natural interest. If you plan to hike it, check the latest route information before setting out.

Location and practical information

Lniano is located in Pomerania, on the border between Bory Tucholskie and the ethnic region of Kociewie. The eight lakes are in the municipality of Lniano and provide a broader geographical point of reference than information about the village itself. When planning, keep the village and the municipality in mind as distinct geographical scales: the church, library and wooden residential houses are in Lniano; the figure of eight lakes refers to the municipality.

The Gminna Biblioteka Publiczna is located at ul. Wyzwolenia 9, 86-141 Lniano. As the address may change, check it before visiting.
