Borówno combines a lakeside stay with water sports, cycling and memorial sites. The WOPR Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Training and Recreation Centre is located in Borówno, in a forest by Lake Borówno. The centre has a rental service for “Garbus” pedal boats, kayaks and SUP boards, a fully lit beach volleyball court, a campsite and three motorhome pitches. There is a designated supervised bathing area on the lake, and a cycling route approximately 37.5 kilometres long passes through the area. This brings together activities right by the lake and other points of interest around Borówno.

Swimming and water sports on Lake Borówno

The bathing area on Lake Borówno has a 100-metre shoreline and is designated as supervised. The operator rates the lake’s water quality as Class I.

At the WOPR centre, you can rent “Garbus” pedal boats, kayaks and SUP boards. Rental availability and the range of equipment may change, so check the current offer before your visit. The centre also has a fully lit beach volleyball court. This gives you different options for activities on the water and sports on land.

Cycling and walking

The approximately 37.5-kilometre “Szlakiem zabytków i krajobrazów Gminy Dobrcz” cycling route passes through Borówno. A PTTK walking tour started at the Borówno–Plaża stop and followed paths around Lake Borówno as well as streets in the area. While the cycling route passes through Borówno, the walk went around the lake and through the streets of the area.

Triathlon by the lake

In the Poland Triathlon, the swimming course is on Lake Borówno. The half-distance event covers two laps, while the full-distance event covers four. The start traditionally takes place at the public “Plaża Borówno” beach, 1 Spacerowa Street. If you would like to combine your trip with the race, check the specific event dates in advance.

Memorial sites and landscape

Borówno is home to a cemetery for victims of Nazi terror during the 1939–1945 wartime period. Nearby, there is also a mass grave of victims of German mass executions in 1939 and an execution site marked by a dedicated monument. The historic sites have different associations: the mass grave commemorates the 1939 mass executions, while the execution site is marked by its own monument.

The Augustowo Nature Reserve is also nearby. It protects a site of wet alder carr forest, adding a distinct landscape dimension to the memorial sites.

Accommodation and dining

The WOPR centre has a campsite and three motorhome pitches. If you are travelling with a tent or motorhome, you can choose between these two types of accommodation; check availability and conditions in advance. The exact number of three pitches is especially useful when planning a motorhome trip.

The centre’s food and drink options include ice cream, burgers, fries, pancakes, drinks and set meals. The selection may change. This means you can find information about accommodation and food in one place, while lakeside activities provide another focus for your stay.
