Koszuty combines a manor house history shaped by the Baroque period with reconstructed living quarters and a cycling route through the town. This gives you two distinct focuses to choose from when planning your trip: architecture and historic domestic life, or the southern section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route. The manor house was probably built shortly after 1750; the route runs from Poznań towards Tulce and continues through Koszuty to Środa Wielkopolska.

A Manor House Between Timber Framing and the Baroque

The building is a timber-framed structure made of larch wood and clay on an oak sill; parts of the building are constructed of brick. Despite later alterations, its preserved room layout and some decorative façade elements place the manor house among Baroque-era architectural monuments. Its construction and historical classification highlight different aspects of the house: the materials describe its construction, while the room layout and façade details support its Baroque classification.

Reconstructed Rooms and Their Period

Six rooms have been reconstructed in the manor house: the dining room, guest room, salon, lady of the house’s room, master of the house’s room and children’s room. The selection reveals different areas of domestic life: rooms for dining, guests and relaxation sit alongside the rooms of the household heads and the children’s room. The display can therefore also be viewed in terms of the functions of the individual rooms.

The exhibits are mainly furniture, paintings and household items dating from before the First World War. In the children’s room, the period represented by the exhibits extends exceptionally to 1939. The rooms therefore differ not only in their function, but also in the time period covered by the objects on display.

To understand the chronology, it is useful to distinguish between the building’s history and the exhibition: the presumed construction date of shortly after 1750 refers to the manor house. The dates before the First World War and up to 1939, by contrast, place the objects on display in context. The history of the building and the time span covered by the exhibits are thus presented side by side, without describing the same period.

Landscape Park and Historic Designation

The manor house is set in a small landscape park. On April 20, 2018, the manor house and park complex in Koszuty was designated a Pomnik Historii (Historic Monument) by decree of the President of the Republic of Poland. This designation applies to the complex; the Baroque classification, by contrast, describes the architecture of the manor house. The park and ensemble provide the spatial setting, while the Baroque classification identifies the house’s architectural-historical character.

Cycling Route Through Koszuty

The southern section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route runs from Poznań towards Tulce and continues through Koszuty to Środa Wielkopolska. The stated direction and named places make it possible to understand Koszuty as one section of a route that continues beyond the town. This adds a distinct perspective for cycling travellers to the manor house’s cultural-historical focus.

When choosing a focus for your trip, these themes are easy to distinguish: at the manor house, the emphasis is on construction, room layout and exhibits; the cycling route places Koszuty on a stretch between Poznań and Środa Wielkopolska. Those primarily interested in architecture and domestic life will find a different point of interest here from those considering the stated route direction for their own cycling plans.
