At Lake Powidzkie, the lake meets the landscape park: the lake lies on the border of the municipalities of Powidz and Ostrowite and is part of Powidz Landscape Park. The park’s lake district defines a picturesque part of Słupca County. Ribbon lakes with clear water are surrounded by forests and beaches. The view therefore takes in not just a single body of water, but also the larger, lake-studded landscape.
Lake district and trails
Three hiking trails and eleven cycling routes run through Powidz Landscape Park. Two educational trails offer further practical guidance. The Krzynica educational trail is six kilometres long and runs from the car park at the bridge in Ląd via Socznia to Krzynica and back. The “Po suchym i mokrym LĄDZIE” educational trail is listed as approximately ten kilometres long, with ten stops. The descriptions emphasise different details: the Krzynica trail specifies the outward and return route and its place names, while the other trail gives an approximate length and number of stops as points of reference.
The Ośrodek Edukacji Przyrodniczej in Ląd offers a wide range of educational programmes for children, young people and adults. In the county, nature themes can be connected with more than just trails: a visit with an educational focus is another of the options described. The monastery offers a different perspective on Ląd. It is a model example of a Cistercian abbey set in a natural landscape and is of exceptional historical and cultural value.
Powidz by the lake: promenade and history
The promenade in Powidz is a footpath and cycle path along the shore of Lake Powidzkie. Its first section, 922 metres long, runs between Łazienki and Dzika Plaża. When planning, bear in mind that surfaces and the route may change. Łazienki originated with the first beach, established at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1922, wooden bathing facilities designed by the Poznań engineer Soczkiewicz were built there, some of them on the water. This historical sequence links the name Łazienki with the development of the bathing resort, without equating the facilities of that time with present-day visitor conditions.
Cultural traces in Powidz and Ostrowite
In the Roman Catholic parish church of Saint Nicholas in Powidz, stained-glass windows commemorate the victims of the Second World War. One depicts the martyr Maximilian Kolbe; the church also has a bronze plaque bearing symbols of the uprising. On Lake Ostrowite, also known as Ostrowickie, traces of a Lusatian culture settlement fortification can be found on the island of Dębowy Ostrów. The church, memorials and settlement remains each shed light on different aspects of cultural history.
Another landscape park in Słupca County is Nadwarciański Landscape Park. Within the county, it extends across the municipalities of Lądek and Zagórów. Together with the lake district of Powidz Landscape Park, this means there is more than one named landscape area to help you get your bearings in the county: one is described in terms of ribbon lakes, forests and beaches, while the other is associated with the municipalities of Lądek and Zagórów.
