Wooden architecture and Baroque interiors meet a palace history with two clearly datable construction phases in Wielichowo. Add to that the annual Święto Pieczarki and two cycling loops of similar duration. This gives you a concrete choice when planning your trip: culture, a festival, or a bike ride.

Churches and Architectural History

The cemetery church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (pw. Narodzenia Najświętszej Marii Panny) is a surviving example of sacred wooden architecture and features a Baroque interior. It is located on the Michał Drzymała County Tourist Trail, “Wooden Churches of Grodzisk County” (Powiatowy Szlak Turystyczny im. Michała Drzymały „Kościoły Drewniane Powiatu Grodziskiego“). Its location along this route connects the individual building with a thematic focus on wooden churches in Grodzisk County.

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene (pw. Świętej Marii Magdaleny) in Wielichowo dates from the mid-18th century. Its date complements the architectural features of the cemetery church with a second, precisely dated church. This lets you explore the town’s sacred architecture from two perspectives: through the wooden architecture and interior furnishings, or through the construction date of the other church.

The palace has two distinct construction phases: it was built after 1797 for Fryderyk von Zastrow; in 1884, it was remodeled for the Platers and a tower was added. The dates mark the original construction and the later remodeling. Wielichowo’s historic urban layout is also listed in the register of monuments. The cultural perspective thus extends beyond individual buildings to the town’s historic layout.

Święto Pieczarki and Its Tradition

Święto Pieczarki is held annually in Wielichowo and is linked to the dynamic development of mushroom cultivation in the area. The festival begins with a colorful procession through the town’s streets. Mushroom cultivation provides the theme, while the procession marks the start of the festival. If you would like to plan your stay specifically around Święto Pieczarki, check the dates for the relevant year in advance.

Compare Two Cycling Loops by Distance

The first cycling loop runs from Wielichowo via Prochy, Tarnowa, Piotrowo Wlk., Pruszkowo and Dębsko, then back to Wielichowo. It is about 15 km long and takes approximately two hours. The second loop runs from Wielichowo via Gradowice, Augustowo and Łubnica, then through Gradowice again before returning to Wielichowo; it is listed as approximately 18 km and also takes about two hours. The second route is therefore longer, although no longer duration is specified. The distance and sequence of places offer the clearest points of comparison.

Another cycling facility is a bike path along provincial road 312 on the section from Wielichowo to Ziemin. The Motostacja offers a different kind of tourist attraction: it is a project to adapt a former narrow-gauge railway station for motorcycle tourism.
