Węgorzewo offers two clear starting points for planning your trip: cycling routes through the area and the manor house with its park. The routes differ in their shape and course; the manor house is notable for its architectural history and preserved details. You can choose what to focus on during your stay based on the topics that interest you most.

Cycling Routes: Loop or Connection?

The green cycling route is a 30 km loop. It runs through Węgorzewo between Brudzewko and Turostowo and is the longest of the routes designated as part of the “Historia i przyroda to atuty Kiszkowa” project. Its length, loop format and the names of the two places help identify this route: it is described as a loop, not simply as a connection between two places.

One section of the route is also described in detail: the green cycling route leaves Węgorzewo heading west and follows the Kiszkowo–Pobiedziska county road. After about 200 m, it turns onto a field road towards Turostowo. The approximate distance refers to the point where it turns off. For navigation, the key sequence is westward, along the county road, then onto the field road.

The R-8 also passes through Węgorzewo and is listed as 29.7 km long. Its role differs from that of the green loop: it is one of twelve designated connecting routes around Puszcza Zielonka. From Węgorzewo, it runs via Skrzetuszewo to Brama III Tysiąclecia on Lake Lednica. The two routes are similar in length, but their formats and described courses offer different guidance when choosing a ride.

Another reference point is at Węgorzewo’s central crossroads, by the figure of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The red and green cycling routes intersect there. Separately, the red route heads towards Brudzewko and reaches the regional road. If you compare routes by their waypoints, you can distinguish these details from the loop and the course of the R-8.

Manor House and Park

The Węgorzewo manor house is a brick, late-Classical building dating from the first half of the 19th century. Inside, an original wooden ceiling ornament and an exposed wall showing the house’s construction have been preserved. These details add specific features of the interior to the building’s period and architectural style.

The manor house is protected as a monument and is listed in the register of monuments. The same protection status applies to Węgorzewo Park: it too is protected as a listed monument and recorded in the register of monuments. This distinguishes the manor house and park as two separate parts of the area’s cultural and historical attractions.

The park dates from the first half of the 19th century and is classified as a landscape park. Its natural monuments include two pedunculate oaks: “Adam,” with a trunk circumference of 350 cm, and “Wojciech,” with a circumference of 440 cm. The park also has a large, old lime tree, in addition to the two named oaks. The measurements make the difference between the two oaks clear, while the lime tree is another notable tree species in the park.

Your stay can therefore focus on different themes: the route formats and courses of the cycling paths, or the architectural and garden history of the manor house and park. The information on route length and course helps you compare the routes; the period, architecture, protection status and named trees provide specific points of interest for the cultural and historical aspect.
