Kozarzyn consists of three farmsteads; its local history brings together early industry, architectural history and a historic cemetery heritage. For planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between locations: the mill history and historic sites belong to Kozarzyn, while swimming and cycling options are located within the municipality of Szamocin. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether local history or the options available across the municipality will be the main focus of your stay.

Industrial history across three enterprises

Between 1831 and 1832, Selig Salamon established an oil mill, a sawmill and a steam mill in Kozarzyn. The first steam engine in Greater Poland was installed in the steam mill. Salamon’s company operated around the clock and developed large-scale production thanks to its modern equipment. The operating figures include two different measures: seasonally, the company’s daily milling capacity was 70 centners; in autumn, the oil mill processed 25 tonnes of oilseeds. These figures refer to different activities and time periods—daily milling capacity on the one hand, and the processing of oilseeds in autumn on the other. Kozarzyn was once an industrial settlement adjoining Smolary.

Architectural history and cemetery heritage

The Dom Młynarza is a building in Kozarzyn that is now used as a residential building. It dates from around 1908 and is included in the municipal register of monuments of Szamocin. The approximate construction date, its current use and its entry in the register describe different aspects of the building: its architectural history, its present-day function and its inclusion in the municipal heritage register. A disused 19th-century Protestant cemetery adds another dimension to the local history. The residential building and the cemetery represent different historical perspectives: architecture and religious burial culture.

Swimming and cycling in the municipality of Szamocin

There are also swimming options within the municipality of Szamocin. Swimming is possible at the bathing area on Lake Siekiera; Laskowo beach and the WOPR lifeguard station also offer a place to swim. If you are planning a specific day for swimming, check the current operating conditions.

When choosing a cycling route, distinguish between the overall offer and an individual route: ten marked cycling trails with a total length of 163.5 kilometres are designated in the municipality’s wooded areas. The approximately 20-kilometre “Przyroda i człowiek” route passes through forests, parks and avenues. It leads to historic buildings, memorial sites, religious and secular sites, and natural monuments. The 163.5 kilometres refers to the combined length of the ten trails, while the approximately 20 kilometres refers to the length of this named route.

The meadows in the Noteć Valley within the municipality of Szamocin offer another way to experience the landscape: they are home to 115 bird species. Thus, alongside its cycling and swimming options, the municipality also offers a natural landscape experience distinct from Kozarzyn’s historical themes.
