Sogod Bay is considered one of the Philippines’ most significant diving destinations. It stretches along the coastal municipalities of Sogod, Libagon, Liloan and Padre Burgos. The name therefore refers to a bay that encompasses several municipalities, rather than just one place. If you are interested in diving, the bay provides the broader setting; the four municipalities identify the coastal communities within this area.
Panaon Island offers another perspective on the marine environment. The waters surrounding the island in Southern Leyte are designated as the Panaon Island Protected Seascape. This designation is based on Republic Act No. 12238, which was approved on August 29, 2025. These are two distinct points of reference: Sogod Bay is known as a diving destination, while Panaon Island is a legally designated seascape.
San Pedro and San Pablo: beaches and water activities
The twin islands of San Pedro and San Pablo lie off the coast of the municipality of Hinunangan. Their powder-white sandy beaches, clear water and lush tropical landscapes define the character of this island pair.
