Three mountain ranges frame Nueva Vizcaya: the province is bordered by the Sierra Madre to the east, the Cordillera to the west and the Caraballo Mountains to the south. This landscape forms the backdrop for a wide range of discoveries—from an expansive forest reserve to waterfalls and one of the country’s longest cave systems.
Caves and Forest Landscapes
The Capisaan Cave System is located in Barangay Capisaan, Kasibu. The cave is 4.2 kilometers long and is considered the fifth-longest in the Philippines. Its size makes it a distinctive natural attraction for anyone interested in cave landscapes.
In Diadi, LMET Park covers 1,200 hectares within the 24,000-hectare Lower Magat Forest Reserve. A provincial report published in May 2025 describes accommodation there, ranging from traditional huts inspired by the Isinay and Ifugao to modern structures such as the two-story Yakal Hall. Check current availability before booking.
Waterfalls and Trails
The Imugan Waterfalls in Santa Fe are a two-tiered, 35-foot waterfall with a shallow plunge pool. Visitors can hike along the streams and rivers that flow from the falls. The trails offer a different perspective on the area than the view of the cascades themselves; local trail conditions can change.
In the area around Imugan Waterfalls, Imugan Mountain Fresh Factory makes jams and fruit spreads from wild berries and other fruits. The combination of waterfall scenery and local processing adds an agricultural dimension to the natural attractions, without prescribing a particular itinerary.
At Balete Pass, an 800-meter zipline offers views of lush, forested woodland. Check whether the zipline is currently operating before making plans. In Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya offers pilot training and tandem paragliding flights; paramotoring is also available. If you are considering a flight, confirm current offerings and arrangements in advance.
Culture and Local Production
In Bayombong, the People’s Museum and Library houses culturally significant ethnographic and historical artifacts from Nueva Vizcaya. The exhibition areas cover agriculture and rituals, accessories and weapons, weaving and textiles, the Ilocano Collection, church materials, and World War II. The displays may change.
Another cultural stop is in Dupax del Sur: St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church is a national landmark. In Bayombong, Macababbad’s Orchidarium, Cacao, and Coffee Farm showcases orchids, a cacao farm and a coffee plantation across two hectares. These different themes—collections, church architecture and cultivation—offer insight into different aspects of the province without reducing it to a single type of attraction.
Getting There and Accommodation
Buses traveling to the Cagayan Valley pass through Nueva Vizcaya. By car, the province can be reached via Cagayan Valley Road, also known as Daang Maharlika. The nearest airport with commercial flights is Cauayan City Airport in Isabela; the overland journey takes three hours. Check routes and travel times before your trip.
LMET Park is one specifically described accommodation option: the May 2025 report mentions huts and Yakal Hall there. If you are considering these accommodations, confirm current availability before booking. For the other destinations, it can help to prioritize your interests—caves, waterfalls, culture or outdoor activities—when planning.
