Villa Florida lies along Route PY01 Mariscal Francisco Solano López, 161 kilometers south of Asunción. By the Río Tebicuary, historical landmarks, the Costanera and cycling come together as distinct themes. When choosing a hotel, you might first consider whether you would like to focus your stay on local history, riverside paths or a cycling tour. The city offers different points of interest for these activities.

Paths and a stay along the Costanera

Villa Florida’s Costanera along the Río Tebicuary has a lit central promenade, a cycling path and sidewalks. There are benches at the piers, and a viewpoint with terraces complements the facilities. The Costanera also has restrooms, a tourist information area, two squares—one covered and one open—as well as a parking lot. The Cruz de Cristo is also located along the Costanera. For planning, you can distinguish between activities and places to take a break: the paths are suitable for a walk or cycling tour, while the benches, terraces and squares offer places to spend time by the river. Check the condition of the facilities before your visit.

History and religious tradition

Villa Florida was initially called Paso Santa María and was founded by the Jesuits in 1632; its official founding took place on September 6, 1880. The Historical Museum contains images carved in stone and wood. A large cross was erected on the riverbank beside the church to commemorate the centenary of the official founding. The museum and the cross highlight different aspects of the town’s history: the carved images in one place, and a riverside memorial in another.

At the patron saint’s celebration on December 8, 2025, a procession traveled along the Río Tebicuary from the Costanera to Puerto Acuña. It then continued on foot for about 15 city blocks to the parish church, where a Eucharistic celebration was held.
