Wide fine sandy beaches, dunes and cycling paths give Cadzand-Bad several distinct ways to spend a stay. When choosing the town, you can consider whether beach days, outdoor activities or a visit to notable spots at Het Zwin will shape your plans. Since early 2014, Cadzand-Bad has been officially and internationally recognized as a “Bad” (seaside resort).
Beach access and coastal scenery
The beaches of Cadzand-Bad consist of wide, gently sloping fine sand. More than 14 official paths over the sea dyke lead to the beach. Boulevard de Wielingen is the town’s beach promenade and a named landmark for Cadzand-Bad’s seaside area.
Some passages through the dunes provide access to the beach and beach pavilions at beach level via a sloped ramp. These access routes are also suitable for strollers and wheelchair users. If you plan to use a particular passage, note that this feature is described for some, but not all, passages.
Swimming, water sports and fossils
You can swim in the North Sea at the beaches. They also invite you to take beach walks, go kitesurfing and sail catamarans. Local rules may vary by zone and season; check the requirements for your planned stretch of beach before taking part in a water sport.
Another way to experience the beach is to look for shark teeth from the Neogene and Paleogene periods, which Cadzand-Bad’s beaches are known for. The tides wash these teeth ashore. If you are interested in geological history, you can also view your beach visit from this perspective, alongside swimming, walking or water sports.
Dunes and cycling
The dunes are ideal for walks and bike rides with views of the beach and sea. In the region around Cadzand-Bad, they are also part of the coastal protection system. This means the landscape you experience on a tour also serves a coastal protection function.
For navigating by bike, the area around Cadzand-Bad has the well-signposted FIKS cycling network. FIKS cycling junction 32 is in the town. The LF Kustroute is a separate route: it starts in Cadzand-Bad and runs to Bad Nieuweschans in Groningen. These details offer two different scales for planning—a signposted network in the area and a long-distance route starting in Cadzand-Bad.
Harbor and water sports
Jachthaven Cadzand-Bad has 125 berths across five piers for boats up to 25 meters long. Wavekarting with Knokke Boat is available from the marina. As the availability of this activity may change before your trip, check with the provider in advance.
Het Zwin and boundary marker 369
There are notable landmarks for orientation away from the beach promenade, too. Boundary marker 369 stands on Dutch territory on the dyke above the Het Zwin nature reserve near Cadzand-Bad. The family walk in Het Zwin is on the outskirts of Cadzand-Bad, at the intersection of Kanaalweg and Noorddijk.
When choosing your stay, you can weigh these different options: beach access and activities on the water offer a different focus from cycling through the dunes or visiting Het Zwin. You can choose Cadzand-Bad based on the experiences you want to make the focus of your time there.
