In Ouddorp, visitors can choose between beaches, nature and culture as different focal points for their stay. The beaches stretch for several kilometres; wide stretches of sand and views across the North Sea define the coastal scenery. The surrounding landscapes, walking and cycling opportunities, and historical and cultural sites also invite visitors to discover other sides of the town. When planning a visit, you can first decide whether to focus on the coast, the nature reserves or Ouddorp’s history.

Beaches and Nature Reserves

The coast offers wide stretches of sand and sweeping views across the North Sea. Inland, the landscape is different: the De Kleistee nature reserve lies in the heart of Ouddorp and includes woodland and flower fields. It preserves the remains of a centuries-old landscape with sand ridges. Special flower species grow in the fields in spring and summer; the exact timing depends on conditions in any given year.

Het Volgerland also combines a walk with views of the landscape. The route is five kilometres long, marked with white arrows, and starts at the car park at the end of Groene Dijk in Ouddorp. The area features a varied dune landscape and abundant birdlife; the beach, sea-defence dunes and inland dunes are nearby.

Routes, Views and Cycling

The Middelduinen observation tower offers views of the transition from the polder to the dunes, as well as the beach and De Kwade Hoek. It can be reached from the car park at the junction of Vrijheidsweg and Oosterweg near Ouddorp. This offers a different perspective on the landscape than a walking route. For cycling, the Kop van Goeree mountain bike route passes through four Natuurmonumenten areas: De Kwade Hoek, Roggebos, bosje Havenhoofd and Scheelhoekbos.

De Punt also brings nature and history together. This 150-hectare dune area lies on the Grevelingen. During the Second World War, its bunker complex was part of the Atlantic Wall. Along the route through De Punt, information boards describe the area’s flora, fauna and historical significance. Those who want to learn about the history of the landscape as well as enjoy a walk will find both themes brought together here.

Windmills, Museums and Culture

The De Hoop windmill was built in 1845 for J. Zoeter and D. Voogd, on the site of an earlier post mill. Its history therefore points both to the year it was built and to an older mill in the same location. Another cultural highlight is Beeldentuin Achter De Westduinen: this private garden in Ouddorp brings together art, nature and history.

Ouddorp Museum displays information in around ten locations and/or in display cases at the town hall. On the ground floor, an interactive touchscreen table is part of the information offering.

Visits and Other Activities

The RTM Tram Museum combines a museum visit with a ride on a historic tram: the route crosses the Brouwersdam and back, and takes approximately one hour. On operating days, the museum is open from 10:00 to 17:00; as timetables may change, it is advisable to check the current schedule before your visit. There is a large car park at the entrance.

Ouddorp Duin offers shops, bicycle hire, a restaurant, a theatre, an ice cream parlour, an indoor playground and a play landscape with dunes. Outdoor activities include archery, laser gaming, Archery Tag, wave surfing and power kiting, as well as a pump track for scooters, skateboards or BMX bikes. Individual facilities may change, and the seasonal programme is also subject to change, so it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.

The experiences on offer have different focuses: the coast and dune landscape, marked walking trails, an observation tower, cycling and historical sites. When planning a stay in Ouddorp, this selection can help you choose what to focus on, rather than treating all the activities as one combined itinerary.
