At Het Hakenberg, an old agricultural landscape and the style of an English landscape park come together. Meadows, fields and woodland are part of this landscape, which is also suitable for walking. When planning a trip to Beuningen, local experiences offer a range of options: a walk with two stated route lengths, a nature-focused discovery experience, a themed cycling route and culinary stops.
Walking at Hakenberg and the Dinkel
The Hakenberg walk around Beuningen is 10 kilometres long and can be shortened to 7.5 kilometres. This lets you choose the planned distance to suit your preference. The walk follows a narrow path along the winding bank of the Dinkel. It therefore combines practical route planning with a distinctive stretch of landscape.
Various routes in the walking network also start from Beuningen and pass through forests, along the Dinkel and through the rolling landscape of Twente. While the Hakenberg walk offers a clearly stated choice of distances, the other routes take in different landscapes. If you want to compare several walking options, you can consider both the distance and the landscape each route passes through.
Discover nature and explore history
The Belevingspad near the Dinkel in Beuningen is a nature-focused discovery experience. It includes opportunities to discover birds, insects and plants. A backpack containing an activity book, measuring instruments and an identification card for aquatic animals provides materials for observation and hands-on activities. The materials provided may be updated by the operator, so check the latest information before your visit.
The starting point is at the Tourist Info Beuningen, 't Sterrebos, Beuningerstraat 71. Check the latest information before setting off. Activities at the Mauritsbrug and its cannon are also part of the Belevingspad. The bridge over the Dinkel is associated with Prince Maurits's attempt to cross the river with his troops during the Eighty Years' War. A cannon at the bridge recalls this historical connection.
Cycling routes and culinary stops
The 30-kilometre cycling route “Mariakapellen en Landkruisen” runs north of De Lutte, passes through Beuningen and the Lutterzand, and takes in Marian chapels and roadside crosses. Its theme differs from the walks at Hakenberg and the Dinkel: the focus here is on a longer cycling route and religious landmarks along the way.
A culinary walking route combines walking with local dishes. It includes stops at Restaurant 't Sterrebos and Restaurant Florilympha. Participating restaurants and the route itinerary may change. Check the latest information before setting off if you want to include these stops in your plans.
Route information for planning
The Tourist Info Beuningen offers route maps, books, a range of cycling, walking and driving routes, town maps and postcards. The selection may change; if needed, check in advance which materials are currently available. This lets you compare the different options for planning your trip: the Hakenberg walk with its shorter alternative, nature-focused discoveries along the Dinkel, the themed cycling route, or walking with culinary stops.
