Odiliapeel brings together village history, forest activities and a waterside landscape, offering different ways to shape your stay. If you’re looking for a hotel in Odiliapeel, you can first decide what you’d like to focus on: historic places and stories, getting active in the Bosgebied, or the Visvijver with its jetties and island.

Churches, remembrance and village history

The R.K. Kerk H. Kruisvinding in Odiliapeel is a Rijksmonument. The Heilige Kruisvindingskerk is a church designed by architect Jan de Jong and dedicated to the Finding of the Holy Cross. Another place of interest is the Sint Odiliakapel, founded in 1995 by several Odiliapeel residents. The war memorial is a commemorative wall with three natural-stone plaques. Together, these places offer different points of interest: sacred buildings and their dedications sit alongside the founding of a chapel and a memorial to remembrance.

The Historic Trail comprises 17 stops that together tell the story of the village. The themes range from its origins in the reclamation of the Peelsche Heide and the pioneers who built a community there, to the resilience Odiliapeel showed, including during the Second World War. The local history thus spans several phases rather than focusing on a single event.

Forest: activity, art and history

In the Bosgebied Odiliapeel, you can walk, cycle and ride horses. It is a mixed plantation forest in which beech and oak trees, among others, have been planted. These three activities offer different ways to spend time in the forest, while the tree species give a concrete impression of its composition.

Historic traces are another distinctive feature of the Bosgebied: it contains remnants of German activity during the Second World War, including a bunker and a trench. The forest is also home to several striking works of art by sculptor Andre van Boxtel. Forest activities, art and historic remnants are therefore different reasons to explore this area.

Trails and seasonal discoveries

The Jeanny van Kuppeveltpad is an accessible walking trail in the woods near Odiliapeel. It is accessible to wheelchair users, people using walkers, and those with mobility aids or strollers. For travellers using any of these, this specific accessibility information is an important part of planning.

Another special feature of the woods on Rechtestraat is the Kabouterpad Papatoe. From March to October, around 80 colourful gnomes are part of the trail. The approximate number and seasonal dates help you plan when to visit, without suggesting that this is an attraction available all year round.

The Visvijver and planning your visit

The Visvijver Odiliapeel covers about 14,000 square metres. There are three jetties over the water, and an old bunker wall on an island provides a home for bats. The Visvijver also has paved paths, ample parking and accessible fishing jetties. These details make the pond a destination in its own right: its water and jetties are complemented by the island and its bat habitat.

Schapendag is held annually in Odiliapeel. Sheep are at the centre of the event, and the visitor programme includes music, dancing and lively outdoor terraces. Its timing differs from that of the seasonal Kabouterpad: Schapendag is an annual event, while the approximately 80 gnomes are part of Papatoe from March to October.
