Fijnaart lies in a marine clay polder landscape on Vrouwe Jacobsland, also known as the Oude Fijnaartpolder. To the north, creeks left behind by earlier floods form the Ruigenhil nature area. The polder landscape and the creeks are two distinct features that help explain the area: one describes the landscape, while the other reflects traces of earlier flooding in the north.
Building history of the church and mill
Dorpskerk Fijnaart was built in 1876 in a traditional craftsmanlike style with eclectic and neo-Romanesque elements. Its spire dates from a later period: after being damaged in the war, it was rebuilt in 1948–1949. The construction date and rebuilding therefore tell two distinct chapters in the church’s history.
Construction of De Oude Molen began in 1845. The round stone windmill used for grinding grain is the last example of its type in the West Brabant clay polder area. This links a specific construction date with a distinctive regional context. If you would like to visit the mill and mill shop, you can do so on Saturdays from 09:00 to 17:00, when the mill is running, or by appointment. Visits are also possible on Wednesdays if the door is open. Opening details may change; check the conditions before your trip.
Market, swimming pool and events
Fijnaart has a weekly market on Tuesday mornings. Market hours may change, so check the schedule before your trip. At De Oester swimming pool, you can enjoy recreational swimming or lane swimming; these are two distinct ways to swim.
The Fendertse feestweek takes place every year in Fijnaart. Graanpop is an annual music event in the town. In 2026, the Fendertse Week programme includes, among other things, a beer festival, a fair, a street market, live music and activities for different age groups. The programme may vary in subsequent years. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the specific dates in advance.
Regional produce and offerings
Fruit farm Roks has been growing cherries, plums, apples and pears since 1964. Events for families are regularly held in the adjoining orchard. If one of these events is important to your trip, check the date in advance. Growing fruit and hosting events are two distinct aspects of the farm: its offerings include both produce and recurring events in the orchard.
Streekwinkel Bakkerij Strootman sells fresh bread, artisan-made Worstenbrood, pancakes and pastries. The AWF farm shop stocks seasonal products such as asparagus, summer fruit, farmhouse cheese and fresh free-range eggs. In the wider area, AWF is also known as a source of fresh strawberries and high-quality clay-soil potatoes. The range and availability may vary; check the selection if a particular product is important to your plans.
Brouwerij De Toekomst brews beer in limited batches without focusing on a particular beer style. Beer drinkers can influence the recipe or beer style; check the details of how to take part in advance. Streekwinkel De Torenpolderkaas is associated with farmhouse cheese made from milk produced by its own cows. Cheese-making workshops are also offered there. If you would like to take part, arrange your visit in advance.
