Goirle is a good choice for a stay where cultural history and time outdoors can take different priorities. Options include a neo-Gothic parish church, a regional history museum, a historic mill, and various ways to explore the landscape or enjoy outdoor activities. To plan your visit, first consider what you would like to focus on: architectural and local history, different natural landscapes, or an activity-based outing. The museum and the mill have specific visiting conditions to keep in mind.

Kerk Sint Jan and regional history

Kerk Sint Jan is Goirle’s oldest parish church. It was built in 1896 in the Neo-Gothic style, based on a design by Jos Cuypers. This offers two different points of interest for a visit: the architectural history of the late 19th century and the church’s place in Goirle. The interior is also well worth seeing. Beautiful light filtering through the stained-glass windows, along with numerous sculptures and paintings, shapes the space. Those interested in church architecture can turn their attention from the design to the artistic details inside.

Heemerf de Schutsboom offers a different perspective on regional history. The museum was developed from an old farmhouse; its origins set it apart from church architecture and draw attention to regional life. In 2026, it is open from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm on the first and third Sunday of each month, from April 5 to October 18. Visits are also possible by appointment. Before travelling, check that your chosen Sunday falls within this period; for a visit by appointment, arrange the date in advance.

Molen de Wilde is a round stone smock mill dating from 1898 and is also a Rijksmonument. The flag determines whether you can visit: when it is flying, the mill is open to visitors, and demonstrations and guided tours are possible. Plan this activity around the flag condition. This lets you include the historic mill in your plans without assuming it is always open to visitors.

Landscape and outdoor activities

Further within the municipality lies Regte Heide & Riels Laag, a Natura 2000 site protected at European level. The landscapes differ considerably: Regte Heide has dry and wet heathland, heath pools, scattered low woodland, and coniferous forests. Riels Laag also features marshy depressions and deciduous forests. Nature enthusiasts will find more than just heathland here: the area has a range of landscape features that differ in moisture and vegetation.

The Gorp en Roovert estate includes a farm that is still in operation and a small castle dating from 1875. Agriculture and a historic building give the estate two distinct points of interest. ‘t Bankven is also located in the Gorp en Roovert nature area. It has a long history as an ice-skating rink, with competitions held there as early as the 1920s. At the same time, you can explore ‘t Bankven on foot or by bicycle. This brings its historic use as an ice-skating rink together with today’s ways of getting around, without requiring you to choose one particular mode of transport.

Other activities offer a different focus. Molenpark has walking routes and an animal paddock to visit. At Klim en Avonturenbos in Goirle, activities include climbing among the treetops, a free fall from a height of twelve metres, and zip lines. You can choose according to the kind of outing you want: a walk and a visit to the animal paddock, exploring ‘t Bankven on foot or by bike, or climbing activities in the forest. Each option has a different focus, so you can tailor your stay to your interests.
