In Midwolda, historic sites, woodland and water sports come together to appeal to different travel interests. The Oldambtmeer was created specifically for water sports; Ennemaborg offers a historical landmark, and Midwolderbos is a place to enjoy nature. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether you would prefer to focus on water, history or nature.

Water sports on the Oldambtmeer

The Oldambtmeer is part of the Blauwestad residential and recreation project. It lies in a former peatland area between Midwolda, Oostwold and Winschoten. At the northern edge of the lake is Jachthaven Midwolda, with more than 200 berths for boats. This is the marina's capacity; the number of berths currently available may vary.

Zeilschool Blauwestad is also located at Jachthaven Midwolda on the Oldambtmeer. Visitors can learn to sail or windsurf there. Whether and when lessons are offered may depend on the season; an appointment may also be required. This brings two sides of water sports together in one place: berths in the marina and lessons on the water.

Ennemaborg and historic buildings

Ennemaborg was built around 1391 as a medieval fortified stone house. The estate includes a park designed largely in the Baroque style of the 18th century. Two distinct historical periods come together here: the medieval architectural form and the later Baroque-inspired park design. Visitors are free to walk along the estate's roads and paths; local access conditions may change.

Another historic landmark is Boerderij Hermans Dijkstra in Midwolda. Dating from 1858, it adds a 19th-century building to the historical picture. Together with Ennemaborg and the park, it offers a glimpse of different architectural and design periods, rather than reducing the area's history to a single monument.

Woodland, water and Konik horses

Midwolderbos lies behind Ennemaborg in Midwolda. The old woodland was once used for timber production and is now a patch of Groninger nature. Its former use and its character as a natural area today offer two different perspectives on the same woodland.

There are several bodies of water in the southeastern part of Midwolderbos, where various bird species settle. Visitors can also walk among Konik horses. These offer two different nature experiences: the water is a place to see the birds that live there, while the Konik horses are part of the woodland landscape as you walk.

Strand Noord and a stage through Midwolda

From the pavilion terrace at Strand Noord, you can look out over the marina and the water. The bathing water at the beach is carefully monitored and maintained by Waterschap Hunze & Aa's. Check the conditions before swimming.

Another landmark for planning your trip is stage 8 of the Beleefroute de Graanrepubliek, which passes through Midwolda.
