Well brings together views of the Maas landscape and tangible traces of architectural history. Together with the Wiel, the Wellse Waard offers a lovely view of the Maas. In the village, a tower dating from the 13th to 15th century and the grounds of Slot Well add to its cultural history. Strandbad Well offers opportunities for swimming and surfing; the Baanbrekerpad leads through the rural surroundings of Well and Ammerzoden. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Well, you can choose from the available options based on whether landscape, architectural history, water or activity is the focus of your stay.

Maas landscape and historical context

Together with the Wiel, the Wellse Waard offers a lovely view of the Maas and also has a place in history: in the 15th century, it was on the Brabant side of the Maas. Landscape and history come together here at a specific point. The view draws your eye to the river, while its former location provides historical context. This gives a visit a different focus from the buildings in the village and helps you include nature and culture as separate interests in your plans.

Tower and Slot Well

The tower at Dorpstraat 7 is a simple brick structure with tuff-stone detailing and dates from the 13th to 15th century. The bell frame provides a more precisely dated detail: it contains a 63-centimetre-diameter bell cast by Jan Moer in 1546. The building and the bell thus offer two different ways to explore the tower’s history—the period when the building was constructed and the year the bell was cast.

Slot Well can also be understood through the arrangement of its buildings. A moat surrounds the grounds; the main castle, dating from the late Middle Ages, stands at the northeast corner, while outbuildings and the gate tower are on the south side. The year 1326 belongs to a different historical layer: at that time, the Well estate was added to the holdings of the Van Malsen family. The ruin known as “de Drakentoren” still stands in the castle garden of Kasteel Well. The layout of the grounds and their ownership history thus emerge as distinct aspects.

Water or a clogs-path

There are various options for outdoor activities. Strandbad Well offers opportunities for swimming and surfing and is an official bathing site in the municipality of Maasdriel. As water conditions can change, check them before your visit. The Baanbrekerpad offers something different: this 11-kilometre Klompenpad (clogs-path) runs through the rural surroundings of Ammerzoden and Well. It starts and ends at ’t Wellse Veerhuis, Wellsedijk 29, 5325 XN Well. The route’s length and a specific start and end point are provided for the walk; at the beach, you can choose between swimming and surfing.

Choose your stay based on your interests

When looking for a holiday rental in Well, it helps to decide what you want to do each day: architecture and ownership history draw attention to the tower and Slot Well, while the Wellse Waard combines landscape with historical context. At the bathing beach, you can choose between swimming and surfing, while the Baanbrekerpad offers a walking route of a set length. This lets you choose a focus for your stay or include culture, landscape and activity in your plans—without setting a fixed order for visiting the attractions.
