The Bogenfels rock formation in Tsau //Khaeb National Park is 55 metres high. In Nkasa-Rupara National Park, the landscape consists largely of reed-bed channels, lagoons and termite-mound islands. In Namibia, a single rock formation and a landscape made up of several elements thus stand side by side. This offers a concrete starting point for planning your trip: what kind of nature experience and what other interests would you like to combine with a destination?

Hiking, 4x4 driving and other activities

There are hiking trails and 4x4 routes in Namib-Naukluft Park. Activities there include photography, birdwatching, stargazing and fishing. Routes and activities can be considered separately when planning: one decision concerns your preferred way of getting around, the other the activity you want to focus on. Check the current conditions for routes and activities before your trip.

Natural history and rock engravings

Dinosaur tracks and rock engravings are among the features of Waterberg Plateau Park. They offer different perspectives: natural history on the one hand, and human-made markings in the rock on the other. If you also take culture and the past into account when choosing your destinations, this park offers points of interest for both.

Night-time lighting and nature trails

The Okaukuejo waterhole is floodlit at night. There are nature trails at Halali Camp. These two details draw attention to different aspects: night-time lighting at a named waterhole on the one hand, and trails in a camp on the other. Before visiting, check whether the lighting is currently operational and whether the nature trails are available.

Nambwa and Susuwe on the Kwando River

Nambwa is a tourism facility on the Kwando River within Bwabwata National Park and is operated by the Mayuni Conservancy. Susuwe is also on the Kwando River within the national park; it is operated by the Kwando Conservancy. Both locations are associated with the same river and park, but have different operators. If you include either location in your plans, confirm that it is currently operating before your trip.

Nkasa-Rupara: requirements and campsites

In Nkasa-Rupara National Park, 4x4 vehicles with recovery equipment are required. As there are no facilities there, you must be self-sufficient. This differs from the simple mention of 4x4 routes in Namib-Naukluft Park: for Nkasa-Rupara, the vehicle type and equipment are explicitly specified.

There are two designated campsites on the banks of the Kwando River: Mparamura, also known as Nzalu, and Lyadura. Mparamura and Nzalu refer to the same campsite, not two separate campsites. Before your trip, confirm current access, facilities and camping conditions with the park administration.
