Cultural Heritage and History

The seven portales were declared municipal cultural heritage in 2023 and immediately became public property of the municipality. Their shared heritage status is central to their significance. Pez Vela represents a different cultural connection: The monumental sculpture was created by the artist Sebastián and is a landmark of the historic center.

The Faro de Campos adds to this historical focus. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it guided ships; today, it is a museum. Its former navigational function and current role as a museum connect maritime history with another cultural theme in Manzanillo.

“Manzanillo se Ilumina” adds an annual event: The New Year celebration features fireworks over the Pacific. If you want to plan your trip around this event, check the specific event dates in advance. Views and Wildlife

Cerro de la Cruz is located in central Manzanillo. Its easy hiking trail offers views of the Cuyutlán Lagoon, the San Pedrito inland port, and the city center. These three sights represent different aspects of the view: lagoon scenery, port, and city. Iguanario Archundia, a wildlife sanctuary, is also located near the center. Visitors can observe reptiles, raccoons, parrots, peccaries, and other animal species there. While Cerro del Toro focuses on the habitat itself and birdwatching, Iguanario Archundia features several specifically named groups of animals.

Coast and Water Sports

Playa La Audiencia is one of Manzanillo’s beaches and is considered suitable for families. Beach conditions vary by season.

There are several specific options for water sports lessons. Manzanillo Surf & SUP offers stand-up paddleboarding lessons and equipment rentals with certified instructors. Marley Surf School offers surf lessons for all ages and experience levels. Surf lessons are also available at Olas Altas Beach.
