Vosyliukai is associated with the Saidžiai freshwater spring, which rises in an emerald-green forest on the left bank of the Neris in Trakai District. Its surroundings combine a forest valley, spring banks and a marked access route—a specific nature focus for a trip centred on landscapes and trails.

The spring in the forest valley

The spring’s banks are covered with lush grass and moss, and the spring sits within a forest valley. A wall of wooden posts supports the slope beside the flowing water. An oak commemorative post marks the spring, and a cobblestone path leads to it. The landscape and wayfinding thus provide a clear point of reference for a nature visit, without requiring a fixed sightseeing itinerary.

Trails and plants in Varnikai Reserve

Varnikai Reserve is located in the southern part of Trakai Historical National Park. The five-kilometre Varnikai Cognitive Walking Way runs through Varnikai Botanical-Zoological Reserve. A wooden boardwalk just under 1.5 kilometres long crosses the reserve’s wetlands. The themed trail offers a longer route, while the shorter boardwalk highlights the wetland landscape.

The reserve can be reached by car, bicycle or on foot. There is a car park and a children’s playground at the trailhead. As visitor facilities may change, check their current status before travelling. The plant life is also a notable feature: more than 600 species of higher plants have been identified in the reserve, and 16 plant species are listed in Lithuania’s Red Book.

Trakai: Castle and cultural landscape

The central building of Trakai Island Castle houses an exhibition by the Trakai History Museum. There are 16 additional exhibition halls in the casemates. If you plan to visit the museum, check visitor and access arrangements before your trip.

The regional cultural heritage also includes Trakai Historical National Park and Aukstadvaris Regional Park. Both were established to preserve cultural monuments and nature in authentic natural landscapes. These areas contain hills, former castle sites, manor estates and old villages. Cultural interest therefore extends beyond individual exhibition spaces to include historic places in a protected natural landscape.

Routes, water activities and cuisine

The Trakai region has themed tourist routes for walking, cycling or driving, as well as hiking, cycling and kayaking routes. Check the specific route options in advance. In Trakai, you can rent boats, hydro-bikes or canoes; confirm the availability of your preferred option before travelling. Activities promoted in the region also include sailing, rowing, stand-up paddleboarding and canoeing. This allows for a range of interests without assuming a particular tour or rental option.

Cuisine can also shape your travel plans: in Trakai, you can try kibinai and other Karaim specialities. If regional dishes are part of your plans, consider this culinary focus.

Choose a holiday apartment for your plans

When looking for a holiday apartment in Vosyliukai, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: the spring and its forest landscape, trails and nature in Varnikai Reserve, or culture, activities and cuisine in Trakai.
