In Radviliškis District Municipality, archaeological hillforts meet museums devoted to distinctive historical themes, an ornithological reserve sits alongside manor houses, and places celebrate traditional crafts. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first choose what to focus on based on the experiences you want: archaeology, Jewish history, landscapes or events, for example. The destinations vary considerably in character, from described routes to exhibitions and recurring festivals.
Hillforts and how to reach them
Kudinų Hillfort, also known as Šiaulės Hill, is in the village of Kudinų and dates to the 2nd–1st millennium BC. The described route via Viliošiai follows the Šiaulėnai–Lenartuva road: 100 metres from the forest entrance, turn off, first cross the pond dam, then continue for 1.3 kilometres along a forest road. Check this route description against local conditions before your visit.
Diauderių Hillfort also dates to the 2nd–1st millennium BC. It is also known as Baisogala Hillfort or Šatrija and lies on the left bank of the Serbentynė (Kiršinas) stream, which is now a pond. In Biliūnai, turn towards Augmėnai, continue for 750 metres and turn again after the Serbentynė stream. The route then continues for another 450 metres across fields to the slope. The two hillforts therefore offer not only different names and historical classifications, but also distinct route descriptions to help you plan your visit.
Landscapes and cultural heritage
The Šiaulės Observation Tower is 21 metres high. Lake Arimaičiai, meanwhile, has been an ornithological reserve since 1967. These destinations offer different points of interest: one centres on a structure of a stated height, while the other highlights the lake’s protected ornithological significance.
The Kleboniškiai Village Household Museum covers 18 hectares in the valley of the Daugyvenė. It includes relocated village buildings typical of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its programme features exhibitions, educational activities and evening events, as well as barn theatre, folk music and craft events, and Užgavėnės celebrations. If you would like to include an event in your plans, check the specific dates currently scheduled.
The Šeduva Jewish History Museum “Lost Shtetl” presents the Jewish community of Šeduva in interwar Lithuania, along with its culture, traditions and history. The museum complex was designed by Finnish architect Rainer Mahlamäki. In Radviliškis City Culture and Recreation Park, sculptures from woodcarving symposiums held in 2002, 2010 and 2011 commemorate those events; the park is also home to “Heroes' Alley”.
At the Baisogala Manor, the main building, stables, coach house, kitchen, warehouse and mill have been preserved. The estate includes a park with numerous exotic tree species. Another architectural feature is the Baisogala Windmill: a three-storey, octagonal masonry structure with a conical, pyramidal form and surrounding galleries. The V. Karmono Space Modelling Museum at Vaižgantas Progymnasium displays rocket models by students of the Radviliškis Space Modelling Club and by Victor Karmonas.
Crafts, horses and seasonal events
The Pakiršinis Crafts Centre at Pakiršinis Manor offers educational activities in a variety of crafts and themes. These include marbling, baking, folk music, linen carving, making wooden tulips, pottery and candle-making. Since the information lists different types of programmes but no current event calendar, it is worth checking the specific dates in advance.
At Šeduva Stud, experienced riders are welcome, as are people getting into the saddle for the first time. Horse lovers and visitors who simply want to see the animals are welcome too. Sodyba “Molinė saulėgrąža” in Valdeikiai invites visitors to take photos in its sunflower field and visit its museum of ceramic jugs. Each spring, the “Tulip Bloom Festival” takes place at Burbiškio Manor; for planning purposes, it is best to check the dates for the relevant edition.
When choosing your trip, the theme may be the deciding factor: hillforts and route descriptions, museum and architectural history, or activities involving crafts, horses and events. If you are planning your stay around a particular event, current dates are especially important; when travelling to Kudinų Hillfort, you should also take local conditions into account when following the route description.
