Several streams and springs lie within Hagoshrim; an offshoot of the Dan flows alongside the members’ homes. These bodies of water are distinctive features of the place. Nahal Snir Nature Reserve (שמורת נחל שניר; Snir Nature Reserve), on the other hand, is in the surrounding area, between Hagoshrim and Ma'ayan Baruch. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between the water within the community and a nature reserve nearby.

Nature in the Surrounding Area

The trails in Nahal Snir Nature Reserve lead to natural pools and run alongside Nahal Snir. A visit to the reserve thus offers two different experiences: the pools and the trail beside the water. Check the reserve’s current visitor information before your visit.

To get there, take Route 99 and the Hagoshrim interchange. The directions for turning off differ depending on whether you are coming from the west or the east. Since route information can change, it is a good idea to check your navigation app before setting off.

Chocolate Workshops and a Trail with Historic Traces

At Studio Ricoletta in Kibbutz Hagoshrim, children and families can make and decorate chocolate and sample different flavors. The workshops are for several age groups and run from Sunday to Friday. Advance arrangements are required; contact the studio beforehand to arrange your visit and ask about availability. This makes it possible to plan the activity deliberately rather than assume it will be available as a spontaneous option.

Another trail at the destination is called “עמק הנהר הנעלם” (The Disappearing River Valley). It passes an old flour mill and the remains of an Ottoman palace. If you enjoy historical traces as well as hiking, you can consider this trail as a separate option: the mill and palace ruins are distinct stops along the route.

Culture in the Northern District

Beyond Hagoshrim, the Northern District offers a distinct archaeological perspective on Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo. These sites are regional cultural attractions, not features of Hagoshrim.

At Tel Hazor, the visit focuses on the Upper City. Its structures include Solomon’s Gate, dating from the 10th century BCE, with six chambers and two towers. The Canaanite palace was used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. The Late Bronze Age palace is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant.

Water engineering is also one of Tel Hazor’s defining archaeological themes. The excavated shaft is 45 meters deep, with steps three meters wide cut into its vertical walls. The underground water-collection system is an example of sophisticated engineering adapted to the geographic conditions for water storage. The fortifications are considered the finest example of their kind in the area stretching from southern Turkey to the northern Negev. To reach Tel Hazor National Park, take Route 90 from the north or south toward Ayelet Hashahar; check your current navigation before setting off.

Tel Megiddo offers a different archaeological focus in the Northern District. The tell preserves significant remains of a city with biblical connections and is one of the three tells closely associated with events in the Bible. The Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional for the number of its temples, the continuity of worship, and its ritual activities. The orthogonal city plan dates from the Iron Age and has few parallels in the Levant. Tel Megiddo therefore raises questions about temples and urban planning alongside the archaeological themes of water engineering and fortifications that define Tel Hazor.
