The rocky beach of Zvejniekciems lies between the Port of Skulte and Saulkrasti Beach. The village originated in the 19th century as a small fishing village on the Skulte coast.
Rocky Beach and Coastal Hike
The first rocks appear on Zvejniekciems Beach before the coastal route reaches the Port of Skulte. The beach is promoted as a location for photo shoots and is mentioned as a stop for weddings. The North Pier of the Port of Skulte is also listed as a sight in Zvejniekciems.
The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route follows the Vidzeme coast through Zvejniekciems. For the first few kilometres to Zvejniekciems, you can choose the beach or a path through the dune forest, where old pines grow. The options differ in their scenery: one route follows the beach, the other passes through the dune forest. As trail conditions can vary seasonally, check the current situation before your hike. The choice between the beach and the dune forest concerns the scenery along this section; it does not replace checking conditions for your planned travel date.
Architecture and Local History
The “Zvejniekciems” cultural centre was designed by Latvian architect Marta Staņa. The “Zvejniekciems” cultural club opened on 8 November 1956; its large hall has seating for 700 spectators. Melnalkšņi is part of Marta Staņa’s architectural heritage in Zvejniekciems.
The place name also points to the history of fishing: Zvejniekciems grew out of its residents’ main occupation, fishing. A stone selected by Kārlis Ulmanis as a testament to the construction of the port is still in Zvejniekciems. The Port of Skulte opened on 7 October 1939.
Events and Getting There
The Ostas svētki in Zvejniekciems are among the best-known events in Saulkrasti Municipality; the exact dates vary from year to year. At the 2026 edition, the Ostas svētki in Zvejniekciems invited people to celebrate the sea, the port and coastal life together. The programme included guided tours of the port area. If the event is important to your trip, check the date for the relevant year.
Zvejniekciems is a passenger stop on the Riga–Skulte railway line. Check the timetable for your chosen travel date when planning your journey. A municipal visitor information notice dated 16 July 2020 also lists a boat launching site in Zvejniekciems. If you would like to include this option in your boating plans, check the information before travelling. The two notices concern different travel decisions: the railway stop is relevant for travelling by passenger train, while the launching site is relevant for boating plans. Plan accordingly, depending on whether you are arriving by train or including the boating option in your trip.
