A trip to Zebras Muiža can be tailored to your interests in nature or culture: spring landscapes and marshes, wooded ridges, walking trails and archaeological sites each offer a different focus. ZEBRUS RESORT is located at Zebrus ezers in Zebras Muiža, LV-3730, Latvia. For further planning, it is worth distinguishing between the different landscapes, distance information and visiting conditions.

Lakes, springs and marshes

The “Zebrus un Svētes ezers” nature reserve is characterised by eutrophic lakes, marshy forests, mineral-rich springs and spring fens. Zebrus avoti comprises springs, spring fens and the glacially formed slope of the Zebrus ezers depression. Visible spring outlets are also part of this scenic area. The nature theme thus ranges from water-shaped habitats to a landform shaped by glaciers. Those particularly interested in springs can consider them together with the fens and depression as related themes, without treating their distinct landscape features as identical.

Walking trails, ridges and views

Steep hills, deep valleys and scenic landscapes shape the terrain of LVM Pokaiņu mežs. There are 15 kilometres of walking trails with themed options. A different distance applies to the “Apkārt Zebrus ezeram” route: it can be extended by about 14 kilometres to Pokaiņu mežs. The figures therefore refer to different offerings—the walking trails in the forest and the possible extension of a route. If comparing distances for your own plans, bear this distinction in mind; the distances alone do not indicate walking time.

Krievkalni offers a different kind of landscape: the wooded ridge reaches 149 metres above sea level at its highest peak and affords wide-ranging views over the forests of Zemgale. At the summit, there is an LVM rest area with tables, benches, a fire pit and an observation platform. This presents walking trails with themed options alongside a specifically described viewpoint and rest area. These are different considerations for planning, not interchangeable information about trail length or time spent there.

Cultural heritage and local conditions

Zebrenes Elku kalns lies between Svētes ezers and Zebrus ezers and rises about 20 metres above the marshy surroundings. The site is regarded as a place for worshipping and making offerings to ancestral gods. It can be reached on foot: the hill is not accessible by car, and the footpath runs for more than a kilometre along the marshy shore of Svētes ezers. This specific access condition is relevant when deciding whether to include the site in your plans.

The archaeological sites offer a distinct focus as well. The Avotiņu senkapi burial ground near Avotiņi (Zebras muiža) comprises a cemetery and settlement dating from the Middle Iron Age and is classified as a cultural monument of local significance. Ezerlūķu pilskalns, about 30 metres high, lies on the eastern shore of Zebrus ezers. It is also part of the “Pa seno zemgaļu takām” route.

Fishing and boat trips

Boat trips are offered in the “Vipēdis” recreation area. Fishing is possible there with the appropriate permit; the service is provided by prior arrangement. These are two different activities with one practical requirement in common: arrange your visit in advance, and note that fishing also requires the relevant permit. Alongside the walking trails, viewpoints and cultural sites, these offer a selection of different themes rather than a fixed itinerary. Plan your nature and cultural experiences according to the specific information about distance, terrain and access.
